She took a deep breath, kissing his hair as she slipped her arms around his shoulder. "You did so well," she'd hear him say. "You did so well."
"I know," she said quietly, running her fingers through his hair on the back of his head. "It's okay. They're sneaky. It's what they do."
"It kept telling me things about how it knew you trusted me and I trusted you and I got so scared that it would do something to hurt you I couldn't control myself.."
She fell silent and something changed in her face. “You wouldn’t have let it hurt me,” she said after a moment. “I know you wouldn’t have. Do you want to go to bed? You must be exhausted.”
He ran a hand through his hair. "A little bit.. It's okay." He stood, heading for the stairs. "You can stay if you want.. There's food."
She hesitated, looking at him with concern. “Go take a nap, okay? I’ll bring you up some stuff in a little bit.”
