The Alyndar left and there was a long silence before he would hear what sounded like a small sob coming from her cot. “...Sam?”
She sat up weakly. Her eyes were a warm brown, although they were filled with tears. “Can I... can I come over to you?”
She came over to him, her body shaking and she took a deep breath. She slipped into the cot next to him and wrapped her arms around his waist.
She shook her head, resting her forehead on his sternum. "I don't think... I don't think this is going to work..."
She whimpered slightly. She couldn't seem to stop shaking. "I love you more than I've ever loved anyone," she whispered, not meeting his gaze. "But whenever I feel your hands, I remember them cutting through my wings and wrapped around my neck. I can't get it out of my head."
He went silent for a moment, trying not to make it obvious that he was terrible sad. He kissed her forehead before speaking quietly, his voice wavering as he tried to still it. "I understand.."
