@Luprony, I wish there was a writing class available for this kind of thing. It'd be so much fun. Setzer is so lucky that he can incorporate ponies into his studies. What a lucky brony. As for your theory, it's interesting, but I still think the "Pinkamena" transformation should've happened. My theory is that the "Pinkamena" state is a state that exists when Pinkie is denied happiness. In "Party of One," we recall that while living on a rock farm, Pinkie Pie was filled with depression. There was no laughing and no smiling. Once she witnessed a rainbow as a consequence of Rainbow Dash's sonic rainboom, this all changed. For once in her life, she experienced joy, and then it became her life's mission to spread that joy to everypony she knew. In "Party of One," the reason she reverted back was because she was angry at her friends because she felt they were avoiding her and lying to her. In "The Return of Harmony - Part 1," she still became angry at her friends. The only difference is how and/or why. "Party of One" => Pinkie's misunderstanding => Anger and sadness. "The Return of Harmony - Part 1" => Discord's hypnosis => Anger (and sadness?). I put the last one with a "?" after "sadness" because she appeared sad that she was being laughed at. Although this may be some conjecture on my part. The anger part has already been demonstrated. I still stick to my view that it's not the method by which this emotion is ascertained, but whether it occurs or not in the end. In both "Party of One" and this episode she was undoubtedly angry at her friends, just for different reasons. I don't think the reasons really have that much merit in terms of the reversion. Despite all this, a part of me is glad she didn't revert. It could've been a mistake on the animators' or writers' behalf, or they didn't consider that to be a permanent part of her personality (ponynality?). If the latter is true, then maybe that'll put some of these "Pinkamena" theories to rest. At least, in terms of how some view "Pinkamena" as a separate "canon" entity.
Really great episode, 20 % cooler than "Friendship is magic, part 1/2" (but of course "FiMpart1" was only the beginning, the plot of episode really starts in part 2; here, in "Return of harmony" we know everypony, only Discord is introduced (like Luna/Nightmare Moon in FiM) ). Pinkie is even much greater than in season 1 (not counting "Paty of One", "her" episode). Discord is cute. Luna was cuter and more cruel, but Discord is... more crafty? Rainbow Dash is awesome. But why there's no Luna??? And the beginning of the episode (with CMC; Scootaloo is here!) is cool.
Entirely possible. My reasoning was based on the different nature in which she became depressed. However, because Pinkie Pie is just so damn happy all the time, there simply aren't enough instances in which to take into account, rendering all theories with very little basis. I am however glad they opted against using that device though, I do feel it would have been somewhat typical and easy to do. It would also give canonical strength to the 'Pinkamena' meme, something I find rather tedious and uninsightful. Logically, it would also give away that something is wrong to the other ponies, which would reveal Discord's intervening. Perhaps that explains the hair? Pinkie's anger is artificial? Who knows. Talking of Discord, I've said it before, but my God do I love that character.
Discord is an epic villain. It may be a kids show, but they do a fantastic job of showing how evil he is, using Chaos and stuff, words that most girls 8-10 wouldn't know about. I love fan-service. And I love Lauren Faust.
