I really liked this episode, did not quite live up to the hype, but that were so much hype it would be impossible. Remember that there was basicly no canon personality for Luna before this, and how she's portrayed in this makes sense. She is not that far from how I imagined her actually. Spoilers! (how in the name of Equestria does the spoiler tags work?) I love Shadowbolt Rainbow Dash, that looks so cool I don't actually think Luna is so much different than before, under that facade of acting all royal and mighty, she seem to be the same lonely and kind pony who just want people to love her, which is how I always imagined her. But her colours are different now for some reason, but I just think she have just entered whatever state Celestia use to get that gravity defying mane, Luna seem to have the same mane now. I did originally think the ponies were acting all scared for no reason, but it turned out making sense. Like Pinkie Pie actually could get scared, giggle at the ghosties, remember. It was also nice to see Zecora again, it was a while ago Just waiting for Trixie now Edit. By the way, Luna can change into Nightmare Moon at any time?
Not to toot my own horn or anything, just want this to be seen, in Luna's defense. > w> Only quoting it because it got pagebottomed.
I enjoyed the episode, and I think it provides a believable representation of Luna's character, based on her background as a princess from 1,000 years in the past. I'm sure a lot of people wanted a more shy, soft spoken Luna, so to those people this is kind of a slap to the face for them. Personally I had no expectations for what she was going to be like, but even I was surprised when she spoke for the first time. I thought Nightmare Moon was back, LOL The first time I watched it, I thought she had developed split personalities or something, but after the second time it seems more like an inner conflict of sorts. I think over time, she will develop into a really likable character (hopefully she will appear enough times to be developed), who is a nice contrast to her polar opposite princess of the day. I'm actually glad that she isn't shy like Fluttershy, or super-kind like Celestia, because I think that would have been boring, however the Luna we saw today was anything but boring. Shadowbolt Rainbow Dash was just awesome, I really wasn't expecting that as a costume, and Derpy Bags was cute as always.
This episode makes me understand why she turned into Nightmare Moon in the first place... Her behaviour even as Luna is the exact opposite of Celestia. Btw, is there anyone else here who thinks they wasted an opportunity by not putting Scootaloo in the chicken costume? :Trollestia:
Didn't see the regal attitude coming, but the personality is very much like we expected, though less emo than 90% of the incarnations of her. Near the end where she transforms directly into Nightmare Moon begs the question of what Celestia was like back then, as well as how Luna got to "becoming" Nightmare Moon at all. The psychological idea makes sense, but not that end result. /mindblown I was really hoping for Luna's original voice, but they must not have known how they would reintroduce her. "I'm so sorry, big sister!" should be "Please forgive me, sister." She seems to feel that the royal seat means she's equal status to Celestia. loloveranalyze
I got a funny feeling that the mane 6 saw luna at the 2nd episode at the end and yet they're still scared at the latest episode.
I hear ya scootaloo. I'll admit, she wasn't what I expected but in the long run I would say that we'll come to like her new personality. Like scootaloo says, it fits her. Another thing is that she can now be considered as a symbol of fear. Which isn't so bad. Scary luna is scary :3 Also, I love the way she talks. My thoughts on the episode: Its halloween with luna
First thing is first. Shadowbolt Rainbow Dash is Bad Flank! Then Derpy. :derpe: Then everything else. The only thing else that really caught my eye was Scootaloo being a wolf (Werewolf?) and Dinky as a Fire Fighter. Spike = New Rainbow Dash Pinkie Pie = Chicken/Scootaloo Scootaloo = Werewolf(?) So if Chicken/Scootaloo = Pinkie Pie, and Spike = Rainbow Dash. Then Pinkie Pie + Spike = ____ I couldn't watch it live, but have it on my DVR. I blame HUB for changing the time from 9AM EST to 10AM... I have class at 10AM on a Sat. Also, I found an error at 20:50 you see Dinky with the orange bag, then at 20:51 you see the pony dressed up as a ladybug instead of Dinky. Hurray one of the obvious errors I've seen so far. I've seen more but too lazy to re-check and find them again. Nah, because Scootaloo isn't a chicken. :Trollestia:
We disliketh the absence of Rarity... Seriously, an episode focussed on dressing up and Rarity wasn't there?? ALSO, I MAKETH A MOTION THAT AS OF NOW, MODERATORS MUST SPEAKETH IN THE TRADITIONAL ROYAL EVERYPONY VOICE!
The characterisation of Luna was a masterstroke in my opinion. They were dead right to stay away from the fandom version, as this Luna really fits the whole Nightmare Moon story. She's got the authority and up-front confidence which you would expect of a royal figure. However, in the background there is an insecurity and a genuine desire to be accepted, and her aggressive reaction when this does not happen links perfectly with her past transition to Nightmare Moon. Her difficulty in adjusting to a world she has returned to after a thousand years is completely believable. Her archaic language and adherance to traditions that have no doubt evolved beyond her recognition was a great way of demonstrating this (though you'd have thought Celestia would have given her a few pointers as to modern protocol - the Trollestia fans will have fun with this... ;D ). Anyway, before I totally over-think this, the episode had some really great moments. Chicken Pinkie was crazily awesome (though I think they missed a trick in not giving that costume to Scootaloo...indeed I'm surprised they didn't make use of the CMC in this episode, likewise Rarity could have worked well giving pointers to modern etiquette). Yes, Pinkie didn't exactly help things, but then again she did provide the solution in the end. Zecora was pretty badass as a Children's entertainer... Spike going for a dragon costume was a thing of genius ;D Pipsqueak the Brit(?) pony was quite cute, I'm assuming he'll be a permanent addition to the cast as he had a fairly significant speaking role in this ep. And I'm sure that was Dinky in the firefighter costume...yay! Great episode all in all. After the (admittedly very enjoyable) craziness of the last one it was nice to get a more character driven episode.
I never was into the Fanon Luna, but after seeing this I kind of like the Canon Luna. Rainbow Dash is still my #1 though. Go Shadowbolts! Also, Derpy bobbing for apples. -> :derpe:
Loved it, we not must just talk like in thy olde manner, but now all caps should be... LUNA VOICE THE ALLMIGTHY SOVEREIGN OF CANTERLOT... Ack, sput... That cannot be good for my pipes.
I really like this episode, good plot line as always. Princess Luna's personality wasn't exactly what I expected, but I think it fit really well, seeing as how she's been out out of commission for 1000 years and really doesn't have a good idea as how to function. Pinkie Pie was great, although they might be taking her childish qualities a bit to far. The only thing I really don't like about the episode is how Rainbow Dash was portrayed. It's completely out of character. I mean, yeah, she's mischievous, but she was straight up played as a bad guy here, completely mean spirited. She's not supposed to act like that. I hope that doesn't become a permanent character trait for her. HOWEVER! This was an excellent episode. The dialogue was smooth, nice character development for Luna, and the best Derpy cameo yet in my book. Looking forward to next week.
Soo... anyone else think Luna in the end was meant to be reminiscent of Fluttershy in "The Best Night Ever"? View attachment 1558 When being scary means imitating Fluttershy, something's up.
The lack of Rairity made me wonder why? For someone that designs cloths she would be all over this holiday. Pinky did get a bit annoying. The thing with Derpy and the drain plug was very typical derpy. Dashes original character concept was she was suppose to play pranks. It was out if character but not in a bad way imo.
ok, my turn: ok, where to start? Dragonception was awesome (I'm taking all rights to dragonception avatar, it'll be my new avatar as soon as episode downloads (it's downloading in hd I type)) no one knowing what Twilight's costume was was funny. OMG, Pinkie Pie was awesome this episode, 100% chicken (sorry Scootaloo, you're not THE chicken #1 anymore). Fluttershy at her finest. scared and funny in same time. and Luna hug was hilarious. Rainbow Dash, funny moments, specially when she scared Pinkie Pie when she was about to get friends with Luna. (wait, why Luna didn't get friends then with RBD who was obviously (beside Twilight) only one not scared?) Luna, everything I expected (beside new hair, but ok, it looks ok). For someone old fashion and away for 1000years, she got hang of things quite fast. I liked this episode very much. oh yeah, and my dad says it's best episode so far :derpe:
