Agreed, Plus While she may not have gone all Alicorn Princess Dash did gain some new responsibilities this season to expand on in season 4, like her Wonderbolts Training and her Mentorship/Surrogate Big-Sistership to Scootaloo, we still need to see how that plays out for her.
Huh... Well, maybe in season 4 all of the main 6 will reach the goals they had set for themselves in season 1 (and more, in Twilight's case - possibly also in Pinkie Pie's, Fluttershy's, and Applejack's)
I liked it. It's certainly not one of my favorite episodes (The pacing is VERY rushed, of course), but I like how the episode was an honest-to-god musical. Mainly, though, I think the writers did a good job of pulling this weirdness off. The music was spectacular. And Celestia sang! Also... Pinkamena with southern twang in her voice is best pony. And that commercial making fun of the "most interesting man in the world" commercials was awesome. Now... we wait. I hope Season Four isn't so short...
I'll admit, I really loved the episode, It wasn't my favorite by any means, but the songs were good, and some were honestly quite memorable. (I'm still humming a true friend) Most importantly however, Twilight's actual transformation doesn't appear to be some sort of all encompassing plot device. Though I hesitate to use this as an example, I really feel a similarity between this, and the Galvitron transformation from G1 transformers. On the business standpoint, more toys. However, from a story standpoint, The character we love is still there, but now, with new found power, can meet all new challenges. It's a welcome addition I think. It's always nice to see characters grow and develop, and I feel this is far from the end of Twilight's struggles.
I was just able to watch this episode and I have to say... I loved it. The fact that it was chocked full of musical goodness helped a lot. It's my favorite episode, without a doubt. The part where Celestia was singing to Twilight just before she became a princess, I actually teared up (and was made fun of by my girlfriend .
I think once the shock of Twilight's new pair of wings subsides, people are going to be gaga over all of the Derpy sightings in this episode.
I absolutely loved this episode, it WAS understandably rushed, as they didn't have a 2-parter, but it was excellently made. Bravo!
I teared up with the Celestia part too. I'm not a Celestia fan by any means, but going through the memories and Celestia telling Twilight she's proud of her made me cry a little on the inside. On another note, I didn't like that Twilight's friends bowed to her and I thought for sure she'd have an issue. Also, I did hear a rumor that potentially, Twilight will be replaced by a new pony in need of friendship. I hope this is wrong, although I'm not opposed to adding new friends to the group. I personally hope that the plot for this episode is concluded with some sort of plot twist in season 4 with a new villain.
I have mixed feelings about the episode. I really liked the initial premise and the 'Destiny song' It was really funny to see the characters trying to do each others jobs and as each of them went back to normal I couldn't help but smile and felt like a really fun look back at these characters we have grown to love and what make each of them unique and interesting However I think that should have been the plot for the whole episode. Or at least the first of a two parter. Twilight's transformation into a Alicorn felt sudden and hardly relevant. Then I started to cringe at seeing what was essentially flashbacks of the show to date. This was done terribly and felt more like I was watching a advertisement for the very show I was watching. The way the flashbacks were shown was boring and looked like something an amateur video editor would put together. It's been done better before. In the discord episode they showed flashbacks in a sentimental and quick fashion that made sense, I always kinda wished they did it for more then just Twilight and Applejack. But hence that would have taken away from other cool scenes in that episode. The episode went downhill after that The reason for why Twilight became a Alicorn felt cheesy and it felt more like I was watching a show for little girls then it ever had before. Also of the 5 or 6 songs that were in the episode I only liked the Destiny one at the start. Please Celestia, never sing again. So basically I will give the first half of the episode a 8/10. It would be one of my favourite moments in the entire show since season 1. Then the second half I would give a 3/10, it just became so flat and I stopped caring, until my disappointment that I will have to wait until next season to see just how Twilight being a princess will effect the show. But that was well played Studio B, I am going to be waiting for the next season with a lot of enthusiasm. So I guess my review balances out to a 5/10. Since it was awesome and awful at the same time within only 22 minutes. Unlike most game reviews though a 5/10 does not mean I hated it, It means that I thought it was meh... average. Copy paste of a review I wrote, but after watching it a second time I decided to add this. I saw the episode again while I was picking out bits for a best of season compilation video and in retrospect the bad parts of the finale are shorter then the good parts and I've decided that all the songs pre-aliicorn were awesome. So I have decided to raise my rating to 6.5/10. I got a great fic idea from this episode. Because the shoved in Alicorn crap, the main focus of the episode, the cutie mark swaps weren't as explored as I wanted them to be. So I think I will start writing a fic, involving a short story each chapter about each pony trying to cope with having the wrong cutie marks.
This has never happened before, but when I was watching the rerun of the finale just now I actually had two or three points where I found myself on the brink of tears. I didn’t feel anything like that the first time; maybe it took some time thinking about it and watching ponies’s reactions for me to realize just how beautiful its message was. Seriously, no other episode has ever brought me even remotely close to tears, but this one did I think three times, once out of sadness, once out of joy, and once for reasons I still can’t quite figure out
I guess it would have made a good two-parter, but as it is, the pacing just felt off. Twilight realizes that she accidentally caused a minor catastrophe the other day, spends a minute or so feling completely devastated, after which she simply decides to fix things while she also casually makes up some nondescript new kind of magic that we don't even get to see but is non the less important and powerful enough that Twilight explodes and gets reborn as an alicorn. Oh, and then she also becomes a princess for no reason. Then she turns into Neo and flies into the camera, presumably off to found her own Twilightopia to rule or something. Yeah, I'm still surprised at how an episode crammed with so much stuff can still feel so bland. At least, we now know how alicorns are made, proving that ponies are not so much marshmallows as they are popcorn. Alipopcorn.
After much thought It will be very interesting to go back in hindsight this fall and watch this episode again in the context of watching some of season 4. M.A. Larson tweeted that she considered this just one part of a three part episode (but we would have to have for the other two parts). That also suggests that the next season will start with a two-parter. There are a lot of questions left to answer and I think the rest will answer those for us. Of course as a fandom, what's the fun in having them all answered instead of getting to creatively imagine what those answers are through fanfics and stuff for the next seven months? When the Twilicorn thing first came up I said I trusted the writers to pull this off the right way. The way they handled a very difficult task yesterday made me even more sure of the fact that they know what they are doing. There were very subtle and not so subtle nods to us. not so subtle was the way Twilight reacted to the change at first (her face is a confused frown) and the initial questions she asked confirmed that she isn't changing who she is and will still behave like the Twilight we know and love. More subtle was the fact that Derpy showed up five times in the background, even after the controversy.
Plot twist: Twilight gets drunk with power and she becomes the new villain. Basically she goes crazy like in Lesson Zero, but now as a princess. >_>.....<_<
Rarity's face is the stuff of nightmares in this gif. I don't feel safe at my apartment by myself anymore. >_>
