Personally, I don't really know anything about the roleplay community here seeing as how I don't participate with them or anything, but a common complaint has always been 'x member can't use y command right' or 'I can't understand what x is saying any more' I think a simple quality standard is needed. It seems silly at first, but when it drives people away (Poor Quality), I think a bit of quality control will start to make sense in the future. Not my decision, just my opinion. I know Eight is very purist about having people RP however they want to RP, but I think that should specifically stay in between 1-on-1 RP's. One bad apple can ruin the whole bunch, as they say.
People have left the site and have been seeking out sites to RP because of how poor the quality is. Eight concurred that the chat has a really, really shabby RP quality. At one point I RPed there daily. Now I haven't RPed there in over a month. Personally I don't think it's a matter of understanding, but between laziness and performance. Simple grammar and punctuation can change the feeling in an RP, and I refuse to RP in an area where no one is willing to try for each other and make effort on punctuation and grammar. I don't like having to RP with "[Anonymous User]: is sad" "[Anonymous User]: gos to teh shop for growseries" and I sure as hell believe a vast majority don't like to roleplay with such like that. - - Auto Merge - - To be honest, I could care little about a /me command to the quality there. The RPing there lacks effort and performance greatly.
It all depends on the quality of RP you want to uphold. It's not about making everyone comfortable or being elitist, it's about having a good RP. Roleplaying is like acting, and it clearly shows who's trying and who's not. People who are really trying go out on the stage, they emote their words, they stick to their character and they play their part. That takes time and effort not only to learn but to do consistently. If someone strolls in the chat and puts on a weak performance then unfortunately others will be less likely to RP with them. There's a casual RP and a normal RP room for a reason. I'd say make the 'guidelines' actual rules to be followed in the RP room and let people RP as they prefer in the casual RP room. If someone wants to take the time to sit up and learn to RP then I'm sure people here will help them, but they need to be willing to put the effort in.
Reread the OP please! It now includes rules. The casual RP room is still casual, all other RP rooms will have rules enforced.
Perhaps the official rulings should be incorporated into the FAQ where the other rules exist. Just a suggestion, since people will probably see/read the FAQ first.
