Just get in touch with Jaret (Grey's away and may or not be able to access that sort of thing) and he should be able to change your name if the request seems reasonable enough.
I_Ride_Ponies ~ I can't think of anything I want discussed on this forum that would need such a restricted section. There are plenty of places for that on the chans.
Indeed, and the complete absence of so-called mature topics (Rule 34, clop etc.) was one of the reasons why I joined this forum. Let's try to keep at least this one single forum 100% free of that stuff. A suggestion of mine: How about a profile entry for XMPP (aka Jabber, also used for Google Talk)? Preferably in a way that displays a little lightbulb with a link to your ID (or a direct contact field or so) where the MSN, AIM, Y!M, ICQ and Skype icons go so that somepony who uses XMPP doesn't have to go through all profiles to find other XMPP users but can see it right away. Even if I might be the only one here who even knows about XMPP, let alone uses it, this might change.
Sorry to be a grammar Nazi, but I just noticed that familiarize is spelled "familarise" in the sentence that contains a link to the new rules.
Both spellings are generally accepted as correct, even if the z version is the official application it's much like Grey and Gray. I'll look at the jabba thing when I can, however I'm afraid it's not a priority.
When I say "mature", I mean that if someone wants help concerning their father taking drugs (as has cropped up recently), I think a separate channel should be there to post it in, without having everyone look at it in the general discussion thread, which might actually upset some people there. I'm not talking about porn, that's not what MLP is about.
Thinking about it overnight, I still think it would be a good idea. The community here on everypony is one of the most loving and accepting ones on the internet. I'm sure many people who would never consider talking about an issue they may want to solve on another site would love to be able to here. I know they can talk about this stuff in the general discussion, but I think people would rather have a "mature" thread to post, knowing that people who are just coming on here for a laugh won't be the ones looking at their thread.
What dose this place need? a  smiley. Why do we not have one? we have omg derp:derpe: wut? troll:Trollestia: but no lol
Ripp, i'll make one ASAP. And for the mature content, if we ever imply such a thing on our forum, Grey, we could do it like it only people that have access to it are the ones that request it and fit the requirements. P.S.: I am against this, i don't support it.
^It's too much work on the mods, things like drugs/using - asking help aren't actually against the rules and I see no current reason for them to be but a 'Mature Section' would give the wrong impression, sorry it's a no.
User Titles?! This post is out of my normal style. I also want to apologize in advance for this wall of text you see below. It's actually a concern/complaint and a suggestion all in one: After I recently posted, I noticed something peculiar, and that was my once "Senior Member" title had been downgraded to "Junior Member." I've been demoted! Okay, not really. It's just a rank, I know, but I am a little bit upset/concerned about it and I'll explain why. I noticed, after looking through the members list, that it's something that's literally "across the boards" and after reading a conversation, I know why. So... if I understand correctly, here's the new breakdown:
Rank|Post Range Junior|0 to 649 Member|650 to 1999 Senior|2000+
Okay, I understand why this was changed. It does seem weird that new members, myself included (if I'm still 'new'. Well, according to my rank I am now), rank up too quickly with the default thresholds, which I'm guessing were 30 and 100, or something like that. I'm not denying this. However, I respectfully disagree with the first threshold and the message this gives to members. First, I think the 'junior member' to 'member' threshold should be much lower, and the time one is ranked a 'member' be longer. I think 650 is much too high. I don't think a 'junior member' ranking should last very long, while a 'member' ranking should last a long time before achieving 'senior member' rank. So, although I also think 2,000 may be a bit high, some members here do have over 1,000 posts and haven't been here much more than a month. So, I'm not going to address it any further. What I propose is lowering the first threshold down to 100 or something similar just so that one isn't a 'junior member' after they've been here for months. I see some members that are active, have been here for several months, but only post at a rate of once or twice a day, some with over 200 posts, but now they're 'junior members.' That seems unfair to me. This brings me to my next point; quality versus quantity. These new rank thresholds seem to suggest that the quantity of posts matter more. I mean, sure, I can just go into the 'text games' forum and make 276 posts within the next few days to become a 'member', or 1,626 posts and regain 'senior member.' That's easy enough. Rather annoying, but easy enough. I won't do that though. You see, that's not my posting style. Sure, I'll visit the games and post. You can check my posting history. You'll see I post there, but I don't want to make it a habit of that being the only posts I contribute. I feel as if I'm being punished because I'm not the type to post 30 posts per day. By the way, that's a hypothetical number. If anyone really has that, I mean no offense. With the new thresholds, I probably won't become a 'member' again for probably a month or two, or a 'senior member' for five or six months. This is, of course, assuming I keep up my post activity, which I think is an unrealistic assumption. Other active members with more seniority, but a slower post-rate will undoubtedly take longer, maybe over a year. I don't even remember how long it took me to achieve 2,000 posts on the previous forum I was a member of. I think it was like a year and a half. Then again, there was a brief period when forum games were banned, so that's probably why. Also, I think I have a higher post-rate on here. Despite how it looks based on what I've said so far, I'm more concerned about the older (seniority, not age) members that are active, but don't post as much. As for myself, I'll just deal with it if I have to. It's probably not really the most important thing anyway. Sorry for the length of this post thus far, but I just wanted to say something about it. I just don't think it's fair to those members that are active, but don't happen to post every day. I recognize and respect the intention behind it. I've been a member for barely over a month now and even I've seen this place grow. I can't possibly imagine how quiet it was when it was created back in March. I just feel odd being a 'junior member' again. 'Member' I'd understand. I think 'senior member' should take a long time to earn, but I don't think 'junior member' should last that long. Too bad you can't make it based on time instead of post count, but then again, even if you could, that wouldn't ameliorate the issue. The previous forum I was a member of had customizable user titles. A member could put whatever they wanted (as long as it abided by the rules, and wasn't a reserved title like "Moderator" or "Administrator"). I don't know what your opinions are on that if you wanted to just get rid of the ranks altogether at some point in the future. Anyway, that was my complaint/concern. If you're angry with me after reading this, I fully understand. I normally don't post rants, but I wanted to share my thoughts on it. I fully respect the reasons behind it and the individual that made those changes. I can't possibly emphasize this enough. Now if you are still reading this, I'm grateful and thank you in advance for your patience, because now here's the suggestion part of my post: Since I'm on the subject of user titles, I find it odd that these following members still have ordinary user titles: DanSze Luprony Zephyr Wind Twilight Sniper Flutterguy ViperBait Robotmaniac Raindrop Suggestions... > DanSze, Luprony and Zephyr Wind have "Fan-Fiction Moderator" > Flutterguy and Twilight Sniper have "Chat Moderator" > ViperBait, Raindrop and Robotmaniac have "Radio DJ" or "EPR DJ" I know that pretty much any active regular member knows who these great members are, but what about new users and those that may not be familiar with them? Also, I think they deserve to be recognized like any other member on the forum that has the same or similar position. I know I'm possibly running the risk of sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong, and I apologize once again. I know you're busy and for all I know you may already have that on your to-do list and I know I don't fully understand the technical aspect of changing these things. I just thought it'd be a nice gesture to them. Alright, I'm done. Sorry to be such a pain, if I was. I normally don't do this sorta thing. I sincerely hope you aren't angry with me after reading this post, but if you are, I probably deserve it for possibly sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong. I still have the utmost respect for all the staff here, and I just want to make it perfectly clear that I do. I don't want to come across as ungrateful. I love this place and all the things the members of the staff do to make it great, including allowing ordinary members like myself share our thoughts and opinions pertaining to site issues. Thank you! ~ ePONYmous
Ok, nothing big or groundbreaking or important. Just wanted to know if names of songs will be put back on the Radio. They were there before the interruption in service last week-ish. Thanks!
Most likely not seeing as a week after having them livestream trolled our account, locked it amd refuse to provide an explanation! And I'll let Jaret answer the WOT since this was his idea and implementation. I personally couldn't care less about reputation/ranks.
It could be made to be both post and time based... So that even if you have 100 posts if you've been on the forums for 6 months or whatever you become a member. Either way, to me it doesn't matter all that much. It might to others though. I didn't even notice it changed until I read your post.
I'm just happy to be surrounded by awesome bronies, I couldn't care what my reputation was. I have noticed the navigation bar is changing, and some links don't work, but I assume this is a work in progress so I won't make a fuss.
Hmmm... I seemed to have made an error in judgment. I thought some others cared about it. Then again, maybe I'm just jumping to conclusions and the ones that do care didn't post yet? Oh, and according to EP News 3, the threshold to 'member' is 750, 100 more than I originally thought. Oh well. I'm dropping this issue then. It's really not the most important thing, now is it? I'm sorry I wasted your time. By the way, to the person that +repped me for that post above, I really appreciate your comment. You have no idea how much that means to me. It's a shame I don't know who you are.
It's all up in the air, you didn't waste our time we value everyone's opinion as long as it's reasonable and well thought out, which yours most certainly was.
Can we have a separate forum for personal life stuff for members only? Personal threads about depression and addiction and stuff are cluttering up the general discussion. It is kind of off-putting for a site about My Little Pony... clicking the general discussion and people think we're a bunch of strangely open basket cases. I think it is great that the members feel so comfortable sharing and talking openly about this stuff, but there should really be a separate forum for it if everyone wants to start stroking each other over this stuff.
