(The main problem I could see with rocket jumpers is short flight length and if their jet packs get hit...)

Corporal Nelson put a pistol to the back of the head of a captured Soria soldier, grinning evily, "I would love to put a bullet in the back of your head right now, but your much more useful to us alive, all of you are. Take them away!" With that, several soldiers forced the new POWs on their feet and out the building to trucks waiting outside, who would take them deep inside the Union.
"Alright everyone! We got this place at long last! I know each one of you is tired but the battle is not finished yet! We must push on and take the rest of Denver! With the rebel air support gone, it will be much easier to take the rest of the city! Now, secure the facility!:

(It's a very short length flight, or 'Jump', but it happens surprisingly fast and at least a kilometer could be crossed if the jet pack would used successfully. Also, very dangerous in numbers. The only problem about this was the fuel consumption of the jet-packs themselves, not to mention that if a 50.Cal round was to hit in just the right spot, the Jet-Pack would explode. They are basically extremely effective shock troopers with a deathtrap on their back.)

Lucas received his phone-call several hours he got home, and spent the morning of the next day preparing himself to be shipped directly to the front-lines, stopping at a heavily fortified Fort Carson before heading to Denver. Despite being a former Rocket-Jumper, Lucas decided to work as a standard trooper. Upon arrival via Train, he soon found out that Colorado had gone to hell.

And how close the war actually was from the comfort of home.

(I just realized that Sonia holds Cheyenne Mountain. Geez...this is a game-changer for both sides if they were to take it.)

(Eh, honestly it's just a strategic air command base that actually wouldn't be able to hold up to a deep penetrating bunker buster missile. It isnt really necessary to launch nukes either)

As Corporal Nelson went outside, he looked up to watch as a squad of fighter bombers screamed overhead, taking out the Soria aircraft left in the air before bombing strategic areas, peppering the ground in strafing runs in areas, clearing the way to downtown Denver. Once Downtown fell, the remaining Soria troops would likely flee, that's what they did in Cheyenne and Albequekee, and only the most diehard troops would remain to hold them off long enough for the standard troops to withdrae into the mountains to set up positions. "It will be a good day for America once this place falls."

    - - Auto Merge - -

(Also, I just realized a fairly large problem that would face Soria with the fall of its territory in the Great Plains. Food. Soria would be mostly mountains, making it difficult to invade, but about the only large farmland in Soria is the Snake River Plain and a small little plain in southern California, meaning in order to feed to population, they would need to base their diet almost entirely on potatoes, and having to eat one thing with very little other things to go with would be disastrous for both civilian and military morale. But the Union troops would have all the food they need. And in the Southwest they would have major water problems, which would be a lot worse than they are rigbt now)

(At the moment, almost every faction would have a serious weakness except Texas being able to be self-sustainable. Sonia has a food issue and a potential water problem, the South could likely suffer a serious water related issue. The Union atm has no problem with supplies unless the South launches an enormous offensive up North, which would be made worse if Sonia manages to punch through Denver and advance from the East at the same time. )

The remaining Sonian troops retreated roughly thirty kilometres from Denver to the West to set up fortifications and preparing to dig-in. Not only did the terrain work to their advantage for when an attack occurred, but the Sonians were ready to fight to the death for their new nation. With AA guns and cannons, Union air attacks would have been extraordinarily difficult and almost impossible in some places. While the SMC has received intel that the South had won another battle against the Union, they were coming closer and closer towards Washington.DC. The Union was going to deal with the South soon in full force, eventually being forced to fight in a two-sided attack. And the Union knew that once Sonia hit them back, they were going to hit them like a hammer.

While originating fighting as enemies for an extremely brief period during the Dark Days, Sonia wished to come into peaceful relations with the Republic of Texas. Texas had tried to be invaded by the South during the 2070s, but had little success. The Union on the other hand, were close to breaking their lines. Sonia never considered Texas a threat nor an enemy, but had a disagreement when Texas tried to expand into Sonian territory. Sonia would come into assistance to assist the Republic if military encounters, only if they needed the help. Now, Sonia was considering to completely ally with Texas in order to protect both of their interests. After all "An enemy of my enemy is my friend". But where Texas and Sonia truly friends after all this time?

    Hoover Dam, near Las Vegas

"Uhh, sir, something is wrong with the intake system."
A head engineer walked over to the controls and looked at it, "Have you tried closing them?"
"Yes but it is completely unresponsive." The other engineer replied, before looking up to notice that the lights were getting brighter by the moment, "What the hell...?"
Suddenly an engineer just got off the phone, "The other dams down the length of the Colorado report their dams have auto-closed all spillways and sluice gates and they can't open them! They're asking why the hell we're on full blast!"
    "...Sir...you don't think the Union..."
"It's the only possibility that makes sense, send an alert out, the Dam system has been infected by the Damn Dam-Buster Virus!"

    *******

Private Jamison of New York was one of the first troops on the beaches in the covert Operation Sierra Strike, which had been sailing hidden for months, going around the tip of South America and they had now landed on a beach midway between San Diego and Los Angeles. He was in the first wave of 20,000 soldiers out of 60,000 who would be responsible for securing Southern California. The troops flooded ashore, completely unopposed as planned. Soon, the beachhead was secure and they would make their way towards their first objective; San Diego. The air raids would start soon...All this was possible because of a secret ceasefire with the New Confederacy where the Union agreed to withdraw from Kentucky and the two sides establish a 50 mile wide demilitarized zone on each side of the border. The length agreed was two years...two years to take down Soria so efforts can be reconcentrated on taking down the New Confederacy...

    *****

In Denver, B-52 high altitude, heavy bombers started coming in as soon as the news broke of the heavy AA guns that would threaten air supremacy in the area who would bomb the hell out of the mountains while Union troops pushed forward, if Soria was to have any hope of retaking Denver or even the rest of the area, air supremecy had to be retaken, but the lack of large airfields in the area would make the feat hard...

    *****

Allen DeLan explored Fort Worth, soon finding himself in Arlington, which had turned itself in a major tourist and gambling city since Texas legalized gambling after the border closed with the Union years back. As he drove through the city, he couldn't help but worry about what would happen if the Union or Soria was to break the other. Soria had already announced its intentions of uniting everything west of the Mississippi, and the Union wanted to reconquer the entire former United States, and possibly move on to Mexico and Canada to truly make a United States of America. He turned on the mp3 radio, which began playing a mix of his music at random as he drove down Center Street of Arlington, which had essentially become Arlington's version of the Strip in Las Vegas. It was a strange feeling, and an embodiment of how Texas was dealing with the wars, that just 10 to 15 miles back the way he came was one of the largest single military bases in the world.

(If you're wondering where I got the idea of the Damn Dam-Buster virus, I was thinking that about the India-China War, and got the idea that India would make a computer virus that would force dams to open or close their spillways and sluice gates, allowing them to flood the most populated areas of China or suck them dry by reducing the outflow of water to nothing, letting the reservoirs to fill up past the height of the dam and spillover, breaking them. And if you're wondering how it ended; limited nuclear engagement flattened the most vital cities of China, India, and Pakistan (which took the opportunity to try to take the Kashmir region, where it failed miserably), and the DDB virus rendered large parts of China unusable or too dangerous to live in, and China used dirty bombs to render the most vital rivers of India, the Indus and Ganges, completely irradiated, so China and Northern India have been left in total chaos and economic ruin and not really whole countries anymore. It also left more than half a billion dead, a half billion more displaced, and cities like Shanghai, Hong Kong, New Delhi, and Mum Bai completely leveled. Taiwan was also overrun by China but after China's collapse, the Phillipines and Japan invaded, dividing it in half between them. The war left Japan, the Philipiines, and the Republic of Korea as the major powers of East Asia. Also, the Middle East and Russia collapsed into poverty as its oil trade dried up with the collapse of the US, India, and China and the surgence of green tech)

Dead in the middle of night, just as the Union B-52s flew overhead across the mountains, Sonia decided to use one of the cards that where hidden behind their sleeve. Just as the B-52s were on their flight path, one of the bombers exploded during mid-flight as it's metallic corpse flew down onto the surface. Not long later, another bomber was shot down as the Sonian air-force introduced their newest fighter jets, the F-78 Ravens. Developed in total secrecy, the Ravens overwhelmed the 'ancient' bombers within a matter of seconds with devastating precision, speed and stealth. Before the bombers could even detect what was happening, all but a two remained in the air despite being heavily damaged. Not long later, a quick attack onto the Union controlled airport overwhelmed any bombers or fighters that were supposed to take off, putting the Union on equal footing against Sonia.

    -----------------------------------------

Hoover Dam, outside Las Vegas; Nevada

The engineers tried desperately to avoid complete disaster, but there was noting they could do. The Virus completely stopped all waterfalls as the dam was on the verge of spilling over. With all of the engineers and personnel escaping to get to a safe distance, they watched as Hoover Dam cracked before the old dam finals gave way in a horrifying yet strangely beautiful way as the Dam fell apart before the Colorado completely swept it away.

Their efforts were not in vain however.....

    -----------------------

Upon the moment that Sorian intel discovered that the Union was already nearby San Diego, the Military temporarily panicked before deciding to deliver a blow hard enough to render the Union useless. While it had been seven hours after the Union strike into California and troops already heading towards San Diego and Los Angeles, the Sorian military were hard pressed in keeping order amongst the civilian population while preparing for an all out assault on Southern California.

Over a thousand soldiers were already planning to take down the Union menace at the source, along with the various Sorian spies that were placed out on the sea where the remainder of the Union fleet was. It was big, it was daring and it just might change the war for the better.

It was also a suicide mission.....

(Just got tapatalk installed onto my ipod, so I'll reply more often now. Unfortunately, it has the title of the thread above where Ive posted, so its annoying until I can fix it.)

Soon, the "Ravems" were engaged in a massive dogfight with a large intercept mission of the latest of the Union air force, the F-60 War Hawk. Both were equally matched with no noticeable advantage over the other and pilots on both sides equally skilled and determined to win...

    Texas, the next day

The Republic of Texas has announced to the world of its newest innovation, something it calls the "airborne mobile aircraft carrier". According to officials, it can fly indefinitely and uses next to no fuel. The craft has a thousand foot wingspan and can carry 20 aircraft at a cruising altitude far above any known aircraft and anti-air missiles. Any other details are officially classified, such as what kind of aircraft it shall carry, or what defenses shall be on it, nor even what kind of fuel it uses
It shall be taking off soon, but will apparently never land again."

    (Hooray for the Helipads!)

Specialist Charles Henson, one of many important Sonian spies that had successfully infiltrated the Unions covert operation of Sierra Strike, stood inside of the engine-room of the heavily armed Union flagship, the USS Barack Obama. Alongside the rest of the fleet was a considerable chunk of the Union’s Navy, and with the improvement of technology and the unnecessary need to have soldiers manning the turrets and other defences, these positions now belonged to the use of an AI system that sat in the command centre of the Obama. Henson, other than disguising himself as a Union solider, was a wizard at anything technological or mechanical.

Henson got as close as he could to the C.C, which had miraculously led him directly outside of the ship and directly at the port. He held a tablet in his hands, the Admirals tablet, and plugged a red USB directly into the system as it began to upload a virus known as ‘Poseidon’, which was going to turn every single turret and cannon onto their own ships with all the fury of the world. As Henson watched the tablet complete his upload, he took out an entire bottle of wine and uncorked it before laughing to himself. It was a suicide mission, after all.

He drunk the bottle as the turrets and cannons of the entire fleet suddenly spring into life and turn around at the other boats before unleashing absolute hellfire. A large round from another ship slammed into the C.C, killing everybody inside. The Union soldiers panicked as they tried to flee, some even going overboard to escape their inevitable fate.

Henson held the bottle in his hand as he remembered the night that Union soldiers killed his wife and children in his hometown of Denver and threw the bottle overboard once the last drop of liquor was finished. This was his chance to get back at those bastards, and he was making the ultimate sacrifice in doing so. Henson watched as submarines suddenly surfaced as the turrets eliminated anybody inside of the subs themselves and suddenly launched missiles into the air, half of them heading towards Union holdings on the mainland. And the others, to finish the job.

Henson closed his eyes as a smile came onto his face, raising his arms like Christ as a missile headed towards the Obama above him. No more pain, no more guilt. With a flash of light and fire, Henson’s job was done as the flame cleansed himself and his spirit with fire, eliminated the fleet onto the sea within a matter of minutes, and absolutely crippling the offensive capability of the Union’s attack onto Southern California.

(How would the DDB virus spread to those dams? The idea is that it infects a computer by hiding in the USB identifier that's in all USB devices and has to be manually inserted, that way it doesn't spread. Eh, how would you know. But I was thinking they would have safeguards in place to prevent it from doing just that. Another thing; dams that are you sterotypical electronic dams are rare in the east, they're mostly old ones, and they are usually fairly rare. Maybe the Tennessee Valley dams, but those are in the New Confederacy)

The loss of the Obama, while hurtful to the caimpaign, was not a deathblow, all it was was a loss of an aircraft carrier. Soon, other Soria agents were found and killed, saving the rest of the fleet and still making it an extreme danger. Within hours, the army had invaded San Diego, which was lightly defended as the majority of the army was in the east. Only 1,000 soldiers and police officers defended the city, and they were quickly overwhelmed by the more or less surprise, overwhelming attack. Soon, the entire city had been locked down and any citizens considered a threat were ejected. By the end of the day, the rest of the 60,000 strong army had come ashore in San Diego with all eyes on the skies and any potential attack routes as they prepared to move to their next, much more covert objective; cutting off the water supply to the area

(Honestly, the death toll wouldn't be from radiation, as since the reactor was at New York City, the mouth of the Hudson, so the radiation would be swept out to sea, but even then, most of the population would have likely been evacuated. The point of the DDB wasn't death and destruction, it was distribution and hopefully removing major sources of water. Also, the Hudson would not be dammed as it is a shipping channel unless it is like real far upriver, which would have pettered out the time it reached NYC)

(Yea, Denver is what matters really. If Soria wins Denver, stalemate ensues in the east, which ensures disaster for the Sierra Spear unless it is vastly reinforced, which would take a couple months and would draw troops away from the front. So if Denver is won by Soria, it would likely lead to Sierra Spear being called off and the troops retreating. However, if the Union wins, Soria has basically no chance for a counterattack and the Union can begin probing for weaknesses in the Mountains)

Lucas eventually met up with Sorian troops during the night and was assigned to the 15th Ranger Regiment (Somewhere between your standard trooper and a full special forces unit), which was made up of just over 2,500 well-trained soldiers who had access to quite a generous amount of equipment, with addition of the entire unit having an enormous emphasis of urban combat during their training. During the night, Lucas was named as the captain of a team of twelve and was sent across the mountains into Downtown, one team of the entire regiment. The objective was to take as much of Downtown Denver as possible until Sonia could retake the city.

(I hope that wasn't just a team of 12, otherwise it will be an absolute failure. However, the full regiment would probably be able to stall the advance for a little bit)

    Little Rock, Louisana, New Confederacy

Three top generals of the New Confederacy looked over a map of Texas, plotting out the final details of the invasion the Ceasefire with the Union allowed to occur. The ceasefire deal was really a win-win for both sides, as it allowed more defensible borders for both, freed up troops for their respective new invasions, and allowed their civilians in the war time areas some rest and time to get out for when the fighting starts back up.
"Here's what we got so far, we attack in a concentrated needle strike through Texarkana and punch straight through to the D/FW/A metroplex, where we shall fight the entire force dedicated to defending North Texas, which our numbers say we will outnumber 2 to 1, then punch straight down to Austin, take the Texas government hostage, force them to surrender, then we shall begin plans for taking the areas we know they want for them?" A general asked
"Yup. That's the plan. And the sooner, the better as their defenses get better with each passing day."
"Good. Then lets set the invasion date for a week from now, September 18th, and to start at 0300?"
    All the generals nodded.
"Then it is agreed. This war council is adjourned."

    (I can't seem to write today :p)

Lucas and his team of twelve quickly made their way into West Colfax, while the remainder of the Regiment advanced from Ruby Hill in the southwest and covered several other neighborhoods. The Regiment avoided combat whenever possible until eventually entering combat against the Union close to the CBD, where the use of Rocket-Jumpers managed to temporarily throw the battle into the favor of Sonia until what tanks the Regiment had available rolled in from the east. Within an hour of the advance, Sonia firmly controlled the entire western half of the city and reinforced the hell out of it, placing state of the art anti-ground and anti-air turrets while reinforcing key strategic buildings, while artillery was also placed out of the city and began to press down hard onto the DIA, destroying as much of the runway as they could before focusing onto the more fortified areas of the Union-controlled areas of the city.

Sonia had not fully-coordinated a mass scale attempt of the city as of yet, but the Regiment had the objective of holding out as long as they could until Sonia would eventually push into the city. It was about two to three days until this was possible, and it would be a miracle if the Regiment could hold out until then. But if the Ranger Regiment could hold out, Denver could return to Sonia and in turn, place a stalemate across the entire Union campaign in the west.

(I think the end result should be Denver being split, with the Union controlling the more flat parts of the city while Soria controls the western, mountainous outskirts and suburbs. How does that sound?)

Over the course of the week, fighting for Denver intensified greatly as more troops flooded in from Soria. However, the troops of Soria were more used to defense and mountain fighting while the troops of the Union were more used to offense and fighting in plains, this made situation that ended in stalemate in Denver, with the majority of the city under Union control, but the more mountainous western suburbs remained under firm Soria control. The result was neither side with the numbers nor the will power to continue the intense fight that had already dragged into its fourth week, and both declared victory before digging in, a process mimiced along the entire front as the eastern front of the war began to resemble something from the Western Front of World War 1. In the Western front, the Unioj troops managed to fight to the suburbs of Los Angeles itself before finally being stalled by the fact that attacking more would lead to a stretched thin army, something that couldnt be risked. However, most of California south of the Soria capital lay under Union control, with the troops digging in and being reinforced more every day, however, it was of almost no true risk beyond firing bombardments at Los Angeles.
In the skies, the indecisive fight lead to both sides choosing to pull their expensive aircraft out of the air to avoid further, extremely expensive losses, opting instead for U2 descendant spy craft that could engage in light combat with flight ceilings of 85,000 ft.

PFC DeLan had been redeployed to the Texarkana border, military brass had gotten wind of a massive buildup on the Confederate side of the border, and they wanted to be sure the defenses could hold until the reinforcements from Fort Worth could come through and counterattack. Then, on September 18th just before 3 am, Allen was jolted awake by a loud klakon and men yelling, "They're coming!" Quickly jolting out of bed, he quickly threw on his bullet-proofing and grabbed his SALC-23(Semi-automatic long clip, made for putting a long, constant rate of accurate fire down range. One of the favorite weapons of the Republic of Texas). He ran out and got into position on the wall, looking down his sight to see thousands of Confederate troops trying to storm through the defensive barriers before the wall. Most vechiles that that the Confederate's had tried to support their attack had already been destroyed or disabled by the defenses and large amount of rocket fire. The muzzle flashes made it look like small lighting flashes were being fired as tracer rounds zoomed back and forth from both sides. Red flares slowly descended over head to provide lighting and mortor shells whistled om their way down as a small levy prevented powerful howitzers from being used on the wall. He could hear the screaming aircraft ahead as the attacking Confederate aircraft were suddenly intercepted by aircraft from above from an unknown source. But he took a deep breathe and blocked it out and aimed towards a Confederate soldier, the red helmets they wore out of proud making them easy to spot.
    He then began firing...

Lucas had experienced the first four weeks of Denver tired and feeling down. The Union was undoubtably feeling as tired as he was as both sides dug in. Sonian artillery swapped their ammunition to include the standard shells and bunker busting shells. Tanks were also getting onto this with their long range canons being checked for fault while their shells had a more diverse selection that included incendiary to explosive shells and even a shell that essentially turned a tank into a 9 ton shotgun. Soldiers were adapting to life fairly well, despite some disagreements about the stalemate between the occasional conversation.

Rocket-jumpers were unable to conduct any current operations due to the conditions being 'too dangerous' to conduct while the Union started to build trenches. Even though they could be absolutely devastating to the Union when they made a jump over enemy lines and deliver some shotgun justice to those in the trenches, the idea of getting shot out the sky were to great, not to mention having a limited number of Jumpers to do so. Paratroopers were also to dangerous as long as the Union held the airport that could blast them out the sky.

For now, they could only wait
