His brows furrowed as he looked down at her, her form shaking as she struggled to breathe. "She's a target, Gabe. Did you tell Leifson?"
Jared looked irritated, glancing down as Petra tried to stand. He pushed her down with his foot before turning back to Gabe, clearly trying to think. "Look, man, you know that it's like the first rule of all this. Don't befriend your targets. Have you gone soft?"
He closed the door behind him, and Petra got on her knees, taking a deep breath, her whole body shaking.
Petra stood up slowly, a small slice across her throat, and she stared at him in disbelief. "You... you saved me."
He would be able to smell the now familiar scent of jasmine in her hair. "Thank you," she said quietly.
