His head tilted back for a moment and there was a silence before his hand shot into the air, moving unnaturally as blue magyck poured from it. It flew into the air and landed on the opposite shore, creating a dense fog.
When the fog cleared, the skeletons were gone. She would see Puck's silhouette, holding a sword and leaning against the wall. "Something is... wrong," Ben repeated, struggling to speak. The glow in his eyes faded and he fell to his knees, tears in his eyes.
She went down with him, watching him nervously as she went to wipe his tears. "What is it, Ben? What's wrong? What can I do?"
He watched her, his hand over hers as he struggled to speak. "He killed them," he told her hoarsely, his hand trembling. "He killed them all."
He didn't seem to be able to talk and he pressed his forehead against hers. She would suddenly see images flash in front of her mind's eye. The ruins around them were rebuilt, a traveling hub for people on their way to the Ortus. Someone was playing tag, tripping over their own feet. Long black hair. Fire. Screaming. A man reached down. Don't worry. You're safe now.
The visions faded away and he looked terrified, looking around at the ruins. "This... is... wrong..."
She didn't know what to say, pulling away with a sad expression on her face. At the same time, she looked.. upset. Angry at the lack of justice. "We need to get to the Fae capital, Ben. We need to.. We need to find Edgar."
He fell silent and his face grew closed off, even to her. His brow furrowed and he stood, heading over to the edge of the lake. His wings folded against his back naturally and he didn't seem to even notice, making the same sigil to create the bridge.
He walked over to Puck, who was gasping for breath and watching them with wide eyes. He seemed unharmed but very confused. “What is happening?0
Cal went over to him first, looking up at him with sad eyes. "I'm sorry I left you behind, Puck. I'm sorry."
She looked down again, her shoulders slumping and ears drooping. "I think Ben remembered what happened.."
Ben was packing up the campsite, his movement robotic. Puck frowned. “Did he lose his soul or something too?”
He squinted at him for a moment before nudging Calliope playfully. “At least he got some wings out of the bargain, huh?”
