Ben’s eyes were glowing again, and he frowned. “I don’t much either,” he admitted. He opened his mouth to continue but Calliope would suddenly feel a terrible pain in her back.
She cried out loudly, dropping to her knees from the pain as her whole body tensed, tears springing into her eyes.
Everything would go fuzzy. She would hear yelling, and a terrible roar, and she would see a giant, white animal lunging at the others.
She whimpered a little, trying to get up again but barely got off her knees, her hands pressing into the ground.
When she woke, she would be in an unfamiliar world. She was by the window, in a bed that was unbelievably soft. There was a satin curtain, gently blowing in the cool wind. The room was large, with other beds around her. Next to her, in a chair, Ben was asleep. He had a bandage over his eye, and his arm was in a sling.
She shifted, groaning in pain as she moved. Her brows furrowed as she looked around before her gaze finally set on Ben. "Ben..?"
He shifted, waking up suddenly. His one eye landed on her and his expression transformed. “Hey, Cal. Are you okay?”
“I know,” he said, rolling his eye. “They have a name for it here, but humans just call them yetis. I’m fine. How are you feeling?”
"My back hurts," she said, scooting over and patting the spot beside her. "What happened to your eye? ...Does it still work?'
