She grinned at him before looking at the transcripts. "They're super cool. You'd be set to read for a long time."
He didn't even notice, his free hand running over the spines of the books. "Maybe I could find a way to traverse the pass easier..."
She relaxed, squeezing his hand as she let him enjoy himself. "I'm gonna go back down to read, okay?"
As she settled at the table, she would see Ben continue down the line, his wings fluttering in anticipation. After a few minutes, the door creaked open, and she would see Puck's anxious face as he entered.
Cal's expression immediately went anxious, pulling the book closer to her. She looked up at Ben, the nervousness gripping her.
Ben didn't notice, still moving through the bookshelves, and Puck crossed over to her. "Hey, Cal," he said nervously. "What're you doing?"
She stood up as he neared, a sort of instinctive reaction. Tugging on her hair she spoke, her voice small. "J-Just reading with Ben."
She nodded, quickly using her wings to flutter up to him. She grabbed his arm, maybe a little tight, and looked down at Puck. Her hands were shaking nervously. "Right here!" she said, her voice cheery. Ben would know that it was rather false.
He looked over at her in confusion before looking down at Puck. His face darkened and he tilted his head slightly. Puck's face fell and he looked up at them, his brow furrowing. "You told him...?"
"Of course," she said indignantly. They would both hear the panic wavering her voice. "You can't just.. do that. I had to tell him because I'm in a relationship with him. I owe him that honesty." She squeezed his arm again, shaking slightly. "You.. You shouldn't have done it in the first place, Puck. You know that I love him."
