He looked down at her, that playful glint in his eye. “Heaven forbid I take care of myself,” he teased. “Besides, I’m a momma bird, Cal. I had to throw you out of the nest... the nest being the warmth and comfort of my companionship.”
She crossed her arms with a small smile. "I'm out of the nest. Aren't you glad? Besides, I miss you. It sucks not having you around."
He laughed a little, draping an arm over her shoulder playfully. “You know I didn’t wanna leave you behind,” he told her. “But I had to. Are you making anymore friends?”
She squinted up at him. "You know how I am. People don't like to hand around me because of how.. I don't know, weird I am."
His face fell and he squinted at her, tilting her head. “You’re not weird,” he replied indignantly. “You’re amazing. Other people are weird.”
"I'm a little weird," she said with a small, embarrassed laugh. "I have a phobia of, like, everything.." (Discord?)
“Yeah, but you should be,” he said with a small shrug. “The world is terrifying. You’re just smart, y’know?”
He rolled his eyes before leading her into a bakery, relatively quiet compared to the rest of the city. “You don’t need smarts to do what I do, Cal,” he said with a shrug. “You just need recklessness.”
“You know I only came here for the job,” he replied, sitting at a booth and resting his head on his hand. “Very little could have taken me away from home, you know? Everyone I love was there.”
“I would if I could,” he replied, passing her the menu. “But I never get breaks, you know? I work seven days a week.” He shrugged, sighing tiredly. “I love it, but it doesn’t leave much time to do other stuff.”
“You should,” he replied, glancing up at her. “I miss you when you’re not here. How is it back home? Any updates?”
"Not much different," she said with a small sigh, "although, my magic has gotten a little more powerful."
"I guess I just got accustomed to it.. I suppose I should figure out how to control it better, though."
He laughed a little, closing his menu. “Did you set anyone else’s hair on fire?” he teased, folding his arms in front of him.
