He studied her, his expression a little confused before clarity settled over his features. "Were you eavesdropping?"
She raised her hands in surrender, clearly not wanting to betray his trust for something that wasnt her fault. "I didn't mean to! You guys talked really loud. Honest! You can check."
He laughed, but he sounded tired, shaking his head. "Don't worry, Cal. I'm not mad. What did you hear?"
"Just.. about the magyck. Where it's going. About me and how I should be in cage," she looked a little uncomfortable, scratching her temple. "A little about you.:
“Edgar isn’t a bad guy,” he told her. “He’s just... headstrong. Don’t worry about it. Come on, I’ll give you a tour of the place.”
He gestured to the telescope. "We'll start here. This is one of the first pieces of machinery that was built in this city that was geared towards exploration and science rather than survival. It's served as a symbol for human perseverance ever since."
He began to walk, leaving the library behind them. "You've already seen the kitchens. Luce knows you now, so you can just stop by anytime you're hungry and she'll help you out."
He led her to the top of a spiral staircase. "This goes down to the cellar. I'm fairly sure it's haunted."
"Because I know what kind of places are haunted," he replied flatly. "And the cellar is definitely haunted. But this staircase has a secret."
“No, it’s way better than that. You go really fast and have to catch yourself at the end. Want to try?”
