She nodded. The kitchen seemed busier than usual and she gestured with her head. "I might be a little later than normal."
When she arrived, the door would be slightly open, and she would hear arguing inside. "You have been teaching our enemy how to fight us back, Benedict! I always knew you were a soft fool, but this only proves it!" "She's not our enemy," Ben replied sharply. "She's my friend, and she doesn't deserve to be treated poorly!" "She's your friend? She's manipulating you. Just like their kind always do. Have I taught you nothing? Don't you know what trusting them does to us? Do you not care about our people at all?" "Do you?" Ben shot back. "The Magyck we siphoned off should have been relegated to the people of the city, not the royals that already have an abundance!" "Don't you dare question my methods," Edgar barked. "I am wiser and smarter than you, Benedict. You are lucky to even exist in the same world as I do. Be grateful."
"She's a good person," he replied flatly. "I'm not going to treat her badly." "You're an idiot," Edgar berated him, heading for the door, leaving in a huff.
Ben was standing there. His hair was incredibly messy and he looked a little frantic. "Cal. You gotta come with me now. Get your stuff. Hurry."
This woke her up and she stood rigid, immediately getting together some of her things and stuffing them into a bag before returning to him. "What's going on, Ben?"
"We're getting you out of here," he said in a harsh whisper, taking her hand and pulling her forward. "Come on. Stay close."
He shook his head, glancing back at her for a moment. "Edgar is planning on imprisoning you tomorrow morning to put pressure on the elves," he said, moving quickly through the hallways. "He indicated that if that didn't work, he'd move towards execution. I'm not going to let that happen." The pathway they were taking was confusing and rounded. She wouldn't be quite sure where they were going."
