She sighed a little and was silent for a moment. “We have changed the bounty on the faerie’s head back to one that is kill on sight.”
Her eyes narrowed. "What? No. He didn't do anything wrong. Why? Why did you change it when the council agreed?"
“Because Puck made some points and I think they were good ones, Calliope. If he is innocent like you believe, then I guarantee you that he is either trapped or being held prisoner. If not, he is allowed to walk free. He is too dangerous to let there be a possibility that he can get away.”
"And what if he is being held prisoner for helping me? If.. if they're hurting him? Are you still going to kill him for that?"
She nodded slowly, looking afraid. "I just.. Please let them be cautious. The faerie is good. He was kind to me while I was kept there. As well as the head chef. Her name is Luce. Please don't hurt her either."
She tilted her head before speaking, her tone gentle. “Calliope, in times of trauma, our memories can fail us...”
"That's what everyone was saying," she said softly. "I know I sound crazy. I don't blame you for not believing me.. But those two people were kind. The faerie gave the key to escape. He taught me magyck and protected me from the human king, Edgar. Edgar wanted me caged." She folded her hands. "If I could show you I would. I have been nothing but honest with you, my lady."
She sighed a little, crossing her arms. “We will keep an eye out for the head chef,” she allowed. “But the faerie is another story, Calliope. I’m sorry, but as long as he breathes, he poses a threat to our people.”
"I know the conditions," she said quietly. "He'll only be allowed to live if he's found imprisoned or injured by humans."
She watched her with a slight nod. “And even then, he would be taken into custody here and interrogated.”
(Yoop!) The day of the assault arrived. Elven soldiers, disguised in cloaks and hoods, were lined up, ready to attack. Puck stood at the Ortus, his head tilted back as he looked at the machinery.
