He laughed a little, one brow raised as his left ear flickered in response to some invisible stimulus. "Gotta preserve the guy who teaches you how to use your magyck, I suppose..."
He considered her for a moment before giving her a sheepish smile, dropping his hands uncertainly. "You're mine too."
He seemed embarrassed, shaking his head slowly. "That's what happened in the dungeon. Or... I think..." He rubbed his temple uncertainly. "Something happened. Something bad... but I just... I can't remember. They started working and... I didn't wake up until a couple of hours ago. I don't know. I don't remember. I can't remember."
He looked confused and a little scared, shaking his head slowly. "But... Cal, what if I wake up and things are... I don't know. What if that... that darkness comes back and I just don't wake up?"
She reached up, running a hand through his hair. Her ears lowered slightly when she looked up at him. "I'll be here. I'll make sure you wake up."
His eyes fluttered closed almost instinctively as she touched his head, leaning into her touch in a manner that seemed starved for affection. His black curly hair was still damp from when the medics had cleaned him up, and his whole face just softened, leaving only exhaustion in its place. "You don't need to stay," he said slowly, his eyes opening after a moment. "I know you're busy... plus, it isn't very nice down here. It's alright, Cal. I can handle myself."
She tipped her head back, her fingers gently brushing through his hair. "I'd like to stay, if you'll allow it."
He still seemed hesitant, his brow furrowed as he watched her helplessly. "Where... where would you sleep?"
"No, I know," he said with a small nod. "But you can't just... sit here while I sleep. That's a waste of time for you."
He gave her a look askance, one brow raised. "You don't think it's a waste of time to sit here and watch me sleep?" he asked, that familiar smirk crossing his mouth. "You're a bad liar."
"I just don't want to leave you," she admitted, crossing her arms. "The way you say it makes me sound creepy."
