“I’m not sure,” Puck said before Ben spoke up. “It has a small passage, but it’s actually quite big. It’s the darkness you need to be careful about.”
Puck squinted at Ben. “How’d you know that?” Ben opened his mouth to reply before faltering, his brow furrowing. “I... I don’t know.”
Puck scoffed and Ben fell silent, looking troubled. “I don’t trust this,” Puck said. “Stay close, Cal.”
He looked down at her, seeming grateful, and they left the clearing behind, walking forward. The flashes in Ben’s eyes started appearing more frequently, lighting up the gloom that was settling around them.
He was frowning too, and they approached an enormous ornate archway in the side of the mountain, at least 40 feet high. Darkness beckoned them from within.
They all entered and Ben raised his hand. A blue light emanated from his palm, illuminating the cave.
Ben’s eyes were now glowing blue and he suddenly stopped, frowning deeply. “Do you hear that?” Puck’s ears twitched. “Hear what?”
She wouldn’t be able to hear anything, but his ears flickered and his head tilted. “There’s someone here,” he said lowly, his voice gruff in his chest.
The light strengthened and he lifted his hand. His other arm reached out and gently moved her behind her. He drew a symbol in the air, muttering slightly. She would feel something move through her and Ben turned sharply towards their left. “There.”
