"That's not what I'm saying," she retorted. "I just figure that if you're not a terrible human being, you must hate us. It's the only thing that could excuse the Enforcer's behavior."
"But you did it," she persisted. "I'm not attacking you. I'm just... I genuinely do not understand. How could you do it? Why did you do it if you hated it so much? Did they tell you lies about us? Did they say we had killed people and this was justice? What was it?"
"They told us it was our job to keep order. That you guys were like sheep and you would begin a revolt and kill everyone if left unchecked. We were the good guys, I suppose." He shook his head slowly. "They trained us since we were just toddlers as if a revolution would start any day."
"I know how badly they treated you," he said. "While not as bad as yours clearly, the system between us and the higher ups were abusive as well."
She listened quietly, her brow furrowed. “...this will all be dismantled one day, Enforcer,” she told him quietly. “You’ll see.”
She paused before tilting her head back again. “I can’t get over the stars,” she said, changing the subject. “I never thought they would be something I would see.”
