She squeezed his hand, pausing as they passed an older, abandoned brick building. It was obviously worn down, the bricks crumbling in front of their very eyes and sheets covered the yellowing windows, its shine dull against the newer city lights.
She peered at it with pursed lips, hesitating. "Come on," she said eventually, pulling him down the alleyway next to it.
She glanced back at him, a mischievous gleam in her eye. "Then stay out here," she suggested, moving aside some bins to find a hole in the brick wall. "I can go in by myself."
The inside was dark and gloomy, the only sign of life coming in from the sheets covering the windows as the city lights tried to shine through. The air was dusty and smelt of mold. Poppy's hair had a few cobwebs in it, but she didn't seem to notice as she sneezed twice. "Ugh. What was this place?"
"There's a mystery here. We need to solve it," she said brightly, tapping her watch to turn on the flashlight.
"The only reason someone could have died here is if a loose brick hit them on the head. Like they might with us."
