There was a silence before the door closed.
He poked his head out. "Safe?"
She gasped, looking down at him. “My husband! You’re alive!”
He laughed. "You're ridiculous."
She beamed and passed him a spoon. “Ice cream?”
He climbed back on the bed. "Yes, please."
She gave him one of the gallons, resting her head on his shoulder. “Mission success.”
"So I'm dead, huh?'
“Mm. It’s the only thing I can think of.”
He chuckled, kiss her cheek. "Clever."
She beamed, leaning against him as she ate a spoonful of ice cream. “Thank you.”
"Hm. You're welcome."
She poked his cheek playfully with her spoon. "You got out of bed."
"I had to. There was nowhere to hide."
"Under the covers would have sufficed."
"Not good enough."
"It would be fine."
"But not good enough."
"So you had to destroy the whole point of it all?"
"Yup."
