"Sure it does."

 

"Are you saying my mother died in vain?"

 

She raised an eyebrow, tilting her head.

 

She sighed dramatically.

"Fine."

 

She laid across his chest, kissing his cheek.

"I love you too."

 

Her hand rested on the side of his neck as the musical started, her thumb brushing his skin.

"Focus on the movie. There will be a quiz afterward."

 

"Mm. On the musical. So you can't get distracted."

 

"Life isn't fair, my darling," she said, kissing a line on his neck. "But we manage anyway."

 

Her low laugh sounded in his ear and she wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing just under his jaw.

"Excellent."
