She frowned, bouncing Diana in her arms before looking back down at the ground.

A few months later, Poppy didn't show up for a meeting.

 

The door opened and Derrick emerged, his hands already raised in surrender.

"Don't freak out."

 

He hesitated before sighing.

"Poppy went into labor about an hour ago. She's at the hospital."

 

He tilted his head.

“Yes, but Francis, you can’t go.”

 

“I can’t let that happen.”

 

“Francis, they’ve had this date in their head for months. They know you’re going to try to get there. It’s dangerous.”
