She stirred momentarily and suddenly her eyes flew open and she stiffened, a rapid shaking sweeping through her body as her body caught up to her brain. A small whimper forced itself through her throat and she tried to breathe, panic seizing her entirely.
She shook her head, tears sparkling in her silvery grey eyes as she pressed the base of her palms to her eyelids. She was trembling all over, and her breathing was halted; she was evidently terrified. Her whole body was tense and stiff next to his, and small gasps ripped themselves from her throat as she struggled to regain control.
She was shaking so badly, her hands pressed tightly against her eyes as if to keep everything out. A shuddering whisper forced its way out of her mouth, making its way through gasps that were raking her weary body. "It's.... It's.... okay.... It wasn't... It's o-okay... It's not your... it's not your fault..."
She buried her face in his chest, curling up as close to him as she could, her arms tight around herself.
She was silent for a moment before pulling away from him slightly, avoiding his gaze. "Yeah. I'm sorry."
She looked in bad shape, her entire body weary as if she had run a marathon. The dark circles under her eyes seemed to have deepened. "I know," she said, her voice soft. "I'm sorry..."
