Poppy came down the stairs, holding James closely. She stopped when she saw Diana with Francis, her brows furrowing worriedly.
Poppy watched, melancholia spreading across her features before she spoke, her voice sounding drawn and sad. "Diana. Go get ready for the day, please." Diana looked up in surprise before sliding off of Francis' lap reluctantly, heading up the stairs.
Poppy hesitated, going down the stairs and coming over to him. Her eyes were lined in red from crying, but she didn't look at him. "Do you, uh... do you want to hold James before you go?"
She came over to him and he would be able to smell the rosewater in her shampoo as she passed James to him. The baby was fast asleep, his hand curled in Francis' shirt.
James murmured in his sleep, his dark hair over his closed eyes as he shifted to get more comfortable.
