She looked over at him for a moment, leaning over and kissing his cheek quickly. "I really missed you, you know?"
* * * Poppy knelt down in the forest, her hand in the deep green grass. She frowned, tucking her red hair behind her pointed ears, and leaned back against a tree, taking out her notebook and jotting a few notes.
She paused, folding the notebook and standing up, her head craning back as she considered the position of the sun in the sky, her brows furrowed.
She whistled lightly, pulling her hair back and tying it with a red ribbon. A bird, a small robin, flew down and she dimpled, extending a singular finger. The bird settled down, tilting its head curiously.
He was quiet before gracefully standing and stepping out into the light. It was unnatural, as if he belonged in the shadows. "Excuse me."
She gasped in surprise and the bird flew away, startled by his appearance. She eyed him wearily, her hand on her dagger under her brown cloak. "...who are you?"
He pulled his hood back, revealing dark hair that looked clean and precise. "That's unimportant.. Have you seen a man pass through here?'
She hesitated, studying him with eyes like mist over a dark ocean. "A man... besides you?" she asked, still looking nervous.
She glanced around as if looking for an escape route, almost deerlike. "A man... I mean, no... I don't think so... no human ones, anyway."
