She looked up at him with a small frown. "I really am sorry," she said quietly. "You've forgiven me far quicker than I deserve
"I would be, too. I understand where you're coming from." He looked down at her. "But I don't ever doubt that I love you. I think that's what hurt the most."
"It's okay, because now you know that I do, and I'm hoping you don't think otherwise again." He paused for a long while, before speaking up again. "Would you really have asked to get reassigned, though?"
She was quiet for a moment before sighing. "I... I couldn't stand the idea of seeing you, and knowing that we weren't together," she said. "Or the idea that I had been so wrong about you. It just kept spinning around in my head, the idea of you and her together."
"At least we're together again," he said. "Honestly, I don't think I would have done very well without you."
"Ha. That's what you think. I barely survived this long." He frowned after a moment. "It felt like I was dying."
She squeezed his hand. "I felt pretty hopeless too," she admitted. "I didn't really know what to do with myself."
"When you shut the door, I got scared. That was when it really hit me," he confessed. "But it's okay now."
"So, we have a meeting tomorrow. I already forgot the name of who we were meeting. Do you recall?" he asked, changing the subject a bit.
Poppy paused, a slightly guilty look on her face. "No," she admitted. "To be honest, I was just thinking about how badly I wanted to get out of there. He said he would send us a message with more information, I think. So I guess we'll find out then."
