(Woohoo!) "It was weird," Poppy said with a frown. "Phos is so nervous about messing up nowadays that he's actually messing up because of it. I don't know how to reassure him." She frowned, and then shook her head as if she were flinging off unwanted thoughts like droplets of water. "Anyway," she said. "What were you up to?"
"I did some exploring. Read a little bit. Nothing too exciting," he sighed, resting his head on his hand. He looked back down at the coffee before taking a sip. "It's been uneventful."
She squinted at him for a moment, trying to read his face. "Are you alright?" she asked eventually. "You seem a little down."
(Heck. I think my mood effects how I write and it's okay.) "Hmm? I'm fine. It's just that..." He paused, a smile appearing on his face. "Well, I don't have as much fun without you."
(You good?) She laughed deeply, a smile spreading across her face. "Oh, right. I sit around, grow plants, and work in a lab all day. Clearly a very fun person to be around," she said sarcastically.
(Just a little bit of a rough day, but it's nothing to worry about!) "Oh, be quiet. I love having you around. You make yourself sound like you're boring, but I don't think that at all." He crossed his arms.
(Alright. Let me know f you want to talk, okay? Seriously.) She raised an eyebrow at him, her eyes affectionate. "I can be a little boring," she conceded. "But no matter. Did you get the update on the mission?"
(My problems are super mundane and boring, so it's probably nothing to complain about for me. ^^) He took a look at his watch curiously, before putting his arm down. "Not yet. I'm sure we're going to get it sooner or later."
(Your problems are valid, no matter how mundane you think they are!) She frowned and reached a hand out for his watch. "Do you mind if I take a look?"
(I might talk about them later.) He took it off his wrist and passed it to her. "Yeah, here you are."
(I'm here if you need me!) The watch beeped as she pressed a couple buttons, frowning. "Aha. Here." She passed the watch back to him and the message popped up on the surface. "Miss Burgendy values logic and straightforwardness. Be clear and concise with your argument and you should be fine."
(Alright, thank you!) He repeated the sentence slowly, looking up at her in mock confusion. "Oh, okay. So we should give her mysterious riddles to get her on our side?"
She laughed but played along. "I think that must be it," she replied, nodding with certainty. "Do you know any?"
"Hmm." He tapped his chin. "How about 'the tides have turned... Shall you go with or against the current?'" he said eerily, his voice low and spooky.
She squinted at him, her head tilted ever so slightly. "Hm," she said thoughtfully. "That might work. But I wouldn't use the voice if I were you."
"I've always found that logical people react better to a very high voice," she said smoothly, resting her head on her hands. "Maybe try it in a falsetto?"
"Poppy, I would not be able to even if I tried. I think it would be better if you said it." He raised an eyebrow.
She put her hand to her chest, her fingers resting just below her collarbones. "Me?" she asked in a high voice with a small smile on her face. "I could never!"
