She took his hand as they left the dining hall, her expression thoughtful. "Do you ever think about what you're going to do after this?" she asked hesitantly. "I mean, once the war is over and all that?"
"Probably find somewhere else to live," he said, his voice cocky. "But honestly, I feel like life might be pretty much the same for me afterwards, except where you come in."
She looked up at him as they turned up the hallway and she stopped in front of their door to turn to face him, her head cocked slightly. "I really love you, you know," she said, her brows furrowed as she looked up at him.
He looked at her, slightly surprised by the sudden statement. He smiled, and gently brushed the side of her face with his hand. "I really love you, too," he said softly.
She leaned into his touch, smiling shyly up at him. She stepped closer, her hand reaching up to rest on his. "Okay. Good. Glad we've established this."
"You do that," she replied sleepily. She paused in the doorway for a moment, a strange expression crossing her drowsy face. "Hey.. This is kind of weird, but you know you could tell me if you ever wanted to sleep alone for a night or something, yeah? I just realized that I've kind of assumed that this is the way things are, but I wouldn't be hurt if you didn't want it like that."
He cocked his head in confusion. "Alright... I don't see why I would want that, as I like sleeping next to you, but if you ever feel the same, then tell me." He turned and grabbed some pajamas, going to change in the bathroom.
She nodded with satisfaction, and went to change into her clothes in the corner of the room, figuring that it was the most effective method.
He got changed fairly quickly, but assumed she was doing the same in the other room, so waited a bit before coming out. He yawned, stretching as he did so, and then opened the door when he was sure she was dressed. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he rubbed his eyes.
She crawled across the bed to him and hugged him from behind, her hands crossing over his chest and her head resting on his shoulder. "Tired?"
He would be able to hear the smile in her voice as she spoke. "I'm always tired," she said, kissing his cheek. "You should know that by now."
He stretched, before standing up and shutting off the lights, the room being enveloped in darkness. He made his way back to the bed, his eyes quickly accustoming to the dimness. Slipping under the covers, he sighed. What a strange day.
