She sat on the edge of the bed for a moment after he got into bed, her head tilted thoughtfully. Eventually, though, she joined him under the covers and rested her head on his chest, her hand curled on his sternum so she could feel his heartbeat.
His heartbeat was strong and steady, and he instinctually put his arm around her. Eventually, his breaths evened out and slowed down, and he fell asleep.
Poppy stayed awake for quite a while, her grey eyes pale in the darkness. Eventually, though, she sighed, turned her head into his chest, and fell asleep.
(Yep!) Poppy woke up suddenly, the only indicator being a slight gasp. She looked up at Francis instantly and exhaled. He was safe. He was safe. Everything was okay.
Francis, albeit normally sleeping heavily, was awoken by her small gasp. He reached up a hand and rubbed at one of his eyes. "Hmm," he mumbled lowly, still waking up. "Are you okay?"
"Mm," she murmured, turning her head into his chest and inhaling deeply. The scent of his cologne soothed her, and she squeezed her eyes shut. "Just a bad dream."
She shook her head, but it seemed to be more in thought rather than anything. "You were in it," she said, glancing up at him. "You were hurt really badly."
He kissed her nose, taking one of her hands reassuringly. "It's okay. I'm okay. I'll always be okay," he said soothingly. "Trust me."
(NOT IF YOU GO TO WAR) Her fingers drew patterns on his chest and she was quiet until she glanced up at him. "Hm," she murmured. "I'm holding you to that."
(FINE. HE HAS HIS FAMILY TO TAKE CARE OF ANYWAYS) "That's fine. Nothing bad with happen to me or you, I swear," he said, raising an eyebrow.
(...FAMILY?!) "Mm," she said, resting her head in the curve of his neck. She turned and lightly kissed the edge of his jaw, her lips light against his skin. "Sounds good to me."
(WELL TECHNICALLY HE'S GONNA PROPOSE AND THEN NOT GO TO WAR BECAUSE OF THAT SO TECHNICALLYL VHUSV';VS) "Good," he said, "because I can't have you thinking that's not the case."
(SO CUTE GOOD LORD) She traced the line of his jaw and kissed him once more on the neck before pulling away, sitting up in bed. The sheet fell into her lap and she rubbed her bare arm, frowning slightly. "Phos said yesterday that he had developed some pills that would get rid of the dreams for months at a time," she said. "But I'm hesitating because..." She trailed off, clearly a little uncomfortable.
She squinted at him for a moment, evidently uncomfortable. Finally, she sighed. "He said they might make me a bit... loopy."
He laughed, putting a hand on his head. "Well, it's about time for some payback! I never thought I'd see the day!"
She shot him a threatening look. "You will not be allowed to see me," she said sternly. "I will lock myself in my room."
"The room that doesn't belong to you anymore? After, y'know, you gave away the key?" he grinned, raising an eyebrow at her.
