She slid her arms under his, her head buried in his shoulder. "Okay," she said. "I'll trust you." She turned to kiss his collarbone lightly. "I love you."
They sat there for a moment, their arms wrapped around each other, until Poppy finally sighed. "We should probably head to that meeting," she said reluctantly.
Her arms slipped away from around him, and she stood up and stretched, her curls slightly frizzy. "I have to be honest," she said. "I'm a little scared about this next mission."
"I'm sure it won't happen again. I mean... I can't promise anything, but I'm sure our people know to be careful now." He rubbed his eyes tiredly. "I'm sure it will be okay."
She squeezed his hand as they stepped out into the hallway. "I don't know what I'd do without you, you know," she said quietly to him. "Seriously."
"Sometimes I wonder if you'd be better off without me, but then I realize I'm a lot happier with you."
"Of course not," she said. "It's just a shame that I like you as much as I do. Affection could lead to weakness, you know."
"Oh, I know. After that week I realized it is a terrible weakness. That's okay, though. It's what motivated me to survive."
She squeezed his hand, her ring warm against his fingers. "We still don't really know what they were looking for," she said thoughtfully.
"Do you think we should ask? I mean, we do have a right to know, yeah? I'm pretty curious myself," he said thoughtfully, tilting his head.
"We can when we get to the meeting," she said, nodding agreeably. "They should definitely have the information by now."
"Maybe they were trying to see how people react to their fears? I honestly have no clue." He shook his head.
She squeezed his hand as they approached the meeting room. "God," she said, shuddering slightly. "Everytime I think I've forgotten about that, the whole thing just springs back into my head."
