She wrapped her arms around his neck, and rested her head on his shoulder. "I feel like it's the other way around."
"Definitely not. I mean, do you even know yourself? You're smart, and nice, and pretty, and funny, and overall amazing."
"Oh, is that how we're going to do this?" she asked in his ear. She kissed him between her words, and he would be able to hear the smile in her voice. "You're brave, and passionate, and loving, and handsome. You're charming and funny, and your laugh is lovely and warm. You're thoughtful and understanding but also strong and stoic. People would kill to have the remarkable privilege of loving you. Okay?"
He put his arms around her, pulling her closer. "This is exactly what I mean," he said softly. "You're literally competing against me in compliments."
"And that's the difference between you and me," she said. "You see it as a loving compliment. I see it as a challenge."
He moved to kiss her deeply, gently grazing her jaw. After a moment, he pulled. "What do you see that as?"
He did, moving closer to her face slowly, his eyes on hers. His lips hovered lightly over hers before kissing her.
One hand brushed through his hair as she kissed him while the other rested on the side of his face. "I love you," she murmured between kisses.
She watched him carefully, her grey eyes studying his features. She eventually returned his smile and kissed his nose. "Come on," she said quietly. "Let's go to bed."
"Nah," she said, kissing him lightly. "I got it." She disentangled herself from him and crossed the room to the light switch, flicking the light off. She quickly returned, sliding under the clean sheets next to him.
