"Oh, well, as someone who has been married countless times," she said sarcastically, "I find that you just enjoy the little perks it comes with."
"Good to know I'm with someone who is experienced. I'm glad you know what you're doing." He nodded, smiling.
Poppy's heart rate monitor began to beep faster, and she pulled away with an annoyed look on her face. "Better not kiss me," she said with a sigh. "You'll get nurses flocking in."
She frowned at him. "I have a huge gash on my head, a footprint on my neck, and hurt ribs. I don't really think I'm cute right now."
She paused for a moment and he would see the whole situation catch up to her. Her hands trembled, and she closed them into fists to try and keep her composure. "God. You know, I really thought I was going to die there, for a moment."
He enclosed his hands around hers, then leaned over to kiss her cheek. "I wouldn't let that happen. I promise."
Her hands relaxed to hold his, and she watched him for a moment before leaning forward to wrap her arms around his torso. "What would I do without you?" she asked quietly.
He gently, ran his fingers through through her hair. "I know I would be a lot sadder without you," he said soothingly. "I love you."
"Oh, my darling," she said tiredly, relaxing in his arms. "I love you too. Thank you for being there for me."
