"Huh. That's weird," she said, resting her head on his arm. "There were dozens before."
He looked at her. "I'm sure."
Her expression parted with a wide grin. "You don't trust me?"
"Well," he began, "not in this situation. No."
"I'm hurt, my darling," she said, shaking her head at him.
"You're the one who is lying," he said, raising an eyebrow.
"Hmm," she murmured, turning her head to nuzzle her nose into his side. "You have a point there."
He chuckled slightly, brushing her hair with his free hand. "I know."
She wrapped her arms around his torso, her head resting on his chest. "I love you."
He kissed the top of her head. "I love you too."
She sighed and turned her head to him. "I could just fall asleep like this. I won't. But I could."
"You can if you'd like," he said, half-joking. "There may be ants, though."
"Ants?" she asked with a small smile. "Should I be scared?"
"No," he said. "Just thought I'd warn you."
"If ants crawl on me then they'll crawl on you too," she replied. "I'm fine."
"Okay," he said. "I'm fine with that."
She grinned and sighed. "This was a good idea, by the way," she said quietly. "Coming up here."
"Thank you," he said, smiling. "Sometimes I must admit my own brilliance."
"You are brilliant," she said, leaning over to kiss him.
"Thanks," he said, smiling against her lips. "I was kidding, though."
