She hung up and returned to the couch, tugging a lock of her hair in distress. She sat down next to him, curling up as she gingerly rested her head on his shoulder and she shuddered, pulling up the blanket.
She wrapped her arms around his torso, burying her head in his side. "I just.. Uh..." She sighed, her voice wavering. "I guess I have to go on this mission. It's a raid of sorts."
"They're not sure," she said quietly. "That's the thing about battles... you don't really know what could happen. It shouldn't be longer than a week, apparently. Assuming all goes well."
She was quiet for a moment, debating whether or not to tell him. "Yeah," she said eventually. "Yeah. It's dangerous."
"No, but I might," she said, curling up tighter, looking terribly small in that moment. "Honestly... there's a chance I won't come home. I think we... well, I guess it would just be you in that situation, but you need to be prepared for that."
