Her smile was wide and bright, and she glanced at him. “We really should plan for that a little more...”
“Planning for weddings?” she teased. “You only have to do it once more and then you’re done for the rest of your life.”
The curve of her waist fit perfectly with his arms. She kissed the top of his head before taking one hand off the steering wheel to brush through his hair, her fingers slow and gentle. “I love you.”
(Zoop!) The road turned from concrete to dirt and sand, packed down by the various cars that had down over it. Poppy slowed to a stop off the side of the road and turned off the car, stretching with a slight yawn.
She looked over at him with an affectionate smile, trying to figure out whether or not she should wake him. She took off her coat and balled it into a pillow, trying to slip it under his head without disturbing him.
She paused, her hand outstretched to put the pillow behind his head before changing courses, tucking his hair behind his ear. “Yeah. We did.”
She tilted her head before giving him a slight grin, opening the door and stepping out, slipping her coat back on in the process. The desert was flat and lifeless, a slight breeze chilling their skin. The stars glimmered down at them, almost as clear as they had been in the observatory, and the full moon grinned down at them, illuminating the landscape. Poppy let Tom out to explore. The dog whined slightly at the unfamiliar surroundings, but he must have noticed something that amused him because he bounded away, tail wagging fiercely. She watched him go with a slight smile before tilting her head back to look at the sky, her eyes bright and eager. She paused before she turned and went to sit on the hood of the car, tugging on a curl thoughtfully.
Francis joined her, pulling on his own coat. He sighed, leaning against the hood as he looked around. "It's peaceful."
Her fingers played with his hair as she tipped her head back, watching the stars. "Yeah. It's beautiful."
