She studied him as he fell asleep, noting the way he inhaled and the way his grip around her loosened as he relaxed. “Please don’t die,” she whispered quietly, knowing that he couldn’t hear her. “I love you too much to have you go.”
She sighed, kissing his chin lightly before sitting up and slipping out of bed, covering him with the blanket.
Poppy paused and wrote him a quick note on the bedside table before pulling on her coat and heading out the door quietly.
Poppy’s side of the bed was empty, but there was a note on the bedside table written in her sharp handwriting.
She didn’t respond for several minutes but finally his phone buzzed with a message. “I’m almost home. Be there soon. ❤️“
A few minutes later, the door creaked open and Poppy entered the bedroom a few moments later, frowning slightly. She slipped into bed beside him, not seeming to notice that he was awake, obviously distracted.
She blinked, obviously surprised, before she sighed, her legs intertwining with his. “Yeah. I’m okay. I just had to think about some things.”
