“Yeah... I would like to figure out what it is, though,” she said, frowning slightly. The beeping got faster.
Dylan frowned before backing away. “Fine. It sounds like a VS 2.2 land mine with perimeter triggers. We should go back the way we came.”
She frowned before stepping back. “Get as far away as we can,” she replied before breaking into a run, heading towards the mountains.
They managed to get about 40 feet away before it exploded. It sent a shiver through their bones and Dylan cursed as her watch beeped with directions. “The lab is in a cave,” she told them. “In the side of the mountain.”
The whole crew moved across the land, heading towards the mountain. They walked in silence for a while until Dylan’s watch beeped and she checked it, frowning. “Penelope says the camp was attacked.”
“One person is injured,” she replied, squinting at the watch. “She didn’t specify who, though.” She glanced up at Francis. “It’s probably not Abernathy, Francis. She would have said so.”
She frowned and turned off her watch, slowing a jog. The mountain was approaching rapidly and Dylan frowned. “It could be any one of these caves, but they’re scientists; they’re not going to be very athletic.”
“Yeah, but the fact remains that many of them would not like to climb a mountain every day to get to work.”
