She looked up suddenly, her hands on his jaw. "What? No. I mean..." She hesitated, rubbing the back of her neck. "There was a couple moments there. When I thought you were in love with Dylan... I thought that it might be over. And when you left... I don't know. I didn't know how we'd ever recover from that. I still don't think I'll be ever to totally forget that. But I wouldn't leave you. I'd miss you too much."
She hesitated, her fingers running through his hair in the back of his head. Finally, she sighed and it sounded of relief. She wrapped her legs around his waist, burying her face in his neck. "Yeah. It's okay now," she murmured quietly in his ear.
She brushed her fingertips against his jaw, feeling the stubble underneath her touch. "You'll be here when I wake up?"
She leaned into his touch, considering him carefully. "A little." There was another crash of thunder and Poppy gasped in fear, for a moment thinking that they may have been gunshots.
Her heart was pounding and she took quick breaths before burying her face in his chest. "Gah. Sorry. Sorry."
"You too," she mumbled, ducking her head below the blanket so that only her curls were exposed. "Sleep well."
