"Born ready," she said, checking her watch. "5...4...3...2..1!" She ran away from the firework, pulling him back as the rocket shot off in the air and lit up the sky. "Happy New Year!"
“We do,” she agreed with a grin, her eyes bright as she tilted her head back to look up the place where the firework had been. “I just never expected you to follow tradition.”
“Certainly,” she agreed, wrapping one arm around his waist. In the distance, a siren wailed, coming closer and closer.
She beamed and looked towards the street, where they could barely see the light of police cars through the trees. “Probably,” she agreed. She gave him a devilish smile. “Want to run?”
She took his hand and whistled for Tom lowly before pulling him forward, disappearing into the dark forest.
She nodded as they weaved through the trees, her gloves hand warm in his despite the snow. “I spent quite a lot of time in these woods when we were separated,” she said quietly. “Any free time I had, I spent here.”
