"Concussion," she said, her brows furrowing. "He's not telling anyone that it was you; too prideful, I guess. He's pretty messed up right now, though. He's on a lot of meds."
(There might be something wrong with me, because I chuckled when I read that.) "Oh, Jeez. I think I feel bad. He didn't really deserve it," he said, thinking about the moment. "But I'm also not going to apologize."
(Loopy Evan!) "You technically already did," she said, shrugging smoothly. "You said that you were sorry for what happened last night. Doesn't that apply?"
"Oh, so I got a special, personal apology? I'm flattered," she said, sitting back down on the sofa, her legs crossing instinctually.
"I made you cry. I obviously had to apologize or well the guilt would way on me." He raised an eyebrow. "I would like like an ass if I didn't, too."
"You did make me cry," she said, nodding. "And I don't cry very often, so... nice going, there." She raised an eyebrow, teasing him.
The question gave her pause, and she tugged on her curls thoughtfully. "I don't really think it was one or the other," she said, biting her lip. "On one hand, I'd never seen you like that before. It wasn't a... pleasant thing to watch." She twisted her fingers uncomfortably. "It was also because I was frustrated that it had gone as far as it had. He couldn't give up, but I should have spoken up earlier. This could have all been avoided."
"How could you have spoken? You were asleep," he pinched the bridge of his nose for a moment. "If I could go back in time and change things, I wouldn't. I just, wouldn't."
"Doesn't that ruin the point of apologizing?" Poppy raised an eyebrow. "Apologizing is for when you've done something that, if given the opportunity, you wouldn't do it again."
"Well, I was apologizing to you. I suppose the only thing I would change was would be going to the observatory on the first place, that way he doesn't get a chance, and you don't have to see it." He sat down. "But that's not the first time something like that has happened, and it certainly won't be the last."
"It's not the first time something like that has happened? What do you.." Her head was tilted ever so slightly in confusion until she understood something, and the realization dawned on her. "Oh, Christ. I'm such an idiot. You didn't fall out of bed."
"Well, I was hoping you wouldn't find out." He thought about his sentence. "I wish it was the last time I fight with Evan, but it won't be the last time I snap and fight someone else. I don't know if you're okay with that or not."
She frowned, clearly wanting to follow up on her realization, but switched to the more pressing statement. "Francis," she said gently, her expression concerned. "You can't just snap on people like that. What if you come across someone who can beat the hell out of you, and you just can't control yourself?"
"I'll be able to control myself when I know they can get the best of me. It just annoyed me knowing we was fighting me over a dumb reason." He crossed his arms. "I even told him to stop."
"I know that," she said patiently, quickly tying her hair back into a ponytail. "And it's pretty obvious that Evan was being an ass here. But..." She trailed off, sighing as she did so. Her expression was one of genuine worry, and she looked down at her hands. "It worries me, that's all. I'm worried that you're going to get yourself into a lot of trouble with this, whether it's beating up someone you shouldn't, getting arrested, or... I don't know. I just think you have to be really careful."
"I only take on people who deserve it. As for getting arrested? I work for the government. I can get bailed out pretty easily, assuming I don't deserve to get arrested. My record is pretty much clean." His suddenly softened as he looked at her. "You really shouldn't worry about me."
She was quiet for a moment, mulling over his words. "But I do worry," she said eventually, her voice low. She glanced up at him. Her iris' were a deep grey, but at the edges, they seemed to turn almost blue, and these eyes studied him intensely, her expression concerned. "I do worry, and because of that, I just really need you to be careful, okay?"
