I can only agree with all of this. I don't indulge in any form of RP. I don't even, as you said, use actions in asterixes. When someone *hugs* me, I just say 'thanks' or 'hey', depending on the context. However, that's my doing, and I couldn't dictate others not to do what is a simple and harmless act. But, as you said, this is radio chat. Users shouldn't come here if they wish to roleplay, especially given there are several existing roleplaying IRCs.

I think the conflict here is the mod's word against the rules. Given the rules were written by the mods, it's fair to say that what we directy say carries more gravitas.

This is fine, as Fluttershy said.

This isn't. It's extended and renders those who don't RP unable to converse without interrupting. I for one would feel this way, so I imagine there could be a few normal users who do too.

No RP in radio chat? I get that. It has a purpose already. For people to request and comment on songs

No RP chat period? I don't get that.

We had one. This was stated in an earlier post in this thread.

Yes, but then that guy who started it left and took the RP chat with him. And no one bothered to make a new one because of some strange reason that no one want's to talk about. (If it is that bad, then I don't want to know) That confused me. Why did no one make a new one. Personally, I kinda liked the RP chat. It was pretty fun at points. And think about it. It will serve as an outlet for people who do want to RP but can't do it normally. Everyone wins!

Of course, if there is an alternative, I'd like to know. I heard stuff about Skype, but no one seems to be utilizing it...

The current server can't handle the load the rpers were putting on it, we need to look at upgrading which costs money we don't currently have before we look at reinstating a rp chat =/

Thing is, I see that all the time, and I have no particular problem with it as long as it doesn't go on for ages.

I can see why some get annoyed with this, however, especially when people start changing their names. But hey, though I enjoy watching this stuff, I have no problem with the rule staying in place.

Hi. I'm a bit new here, but from this thread it seems like there are two distinct problems that folks have with RP:
    1) * Actions you * is annoying. I really don't understand this one. :/
    2) RP clogs the chat, denying some people the use of it. In this respect RP is no different from any kind of chat that uses a large number of words to say little or nothing.

As for me, I'm not super keen on RP; but it would seem a bit counterintuitive to me to be banned for something as simple as "/me pets Cyberpony's mane" (sorry, having trouble finding examples ;D ).

    1) I'm sure I'm not the only who would rather not have *glomp* *megaglomp* and other actions every time someone joins. It's just annoying and completely pointless. Say Hi, and be done with it.

    2) Think of it this way. 2 or more people are discussing a topic, be it anything from the current song, to requests, anything. At the same time you have 2 people RPing. Their chats would intertwine, causing confusion as a previous post might not be seen. Not to mention DJ's probably won't see a request surrounded by a mass of roleplaying posts. They shouldn't have to pick through a mass of spam to find a request, and I'm sure its annoying to do that. Many people trying to have a conversation, or simply just relax, don't want roleplayers talking at the same time about something pointless. You say it is "no different from any kind of chat that uses a large number of words to say little or nothing" is very vague. You have to take in account that one conversation is real, the other is made up. Some people have no problem with roleplaying, I don't either. But it shouldn't take place in a setting made for listening to music, requesting songs, and having quiet conversations. I'm not saying the chat can't be fun; roleplaying isn't the best way to create "fun".

Well what I was getting at was that RP should be judged based on how spammy it is, not how RP-ish it is. But now I can't think of a way to say anything useful by RP, so I suspect it's always spammy.

I see three problems with this discussion as a whole.

    1) Both sides use the same argument. Of not tolerating the other side. Yes, the chat is supposed to be good for all, but the point of this whole group is that we tolerate. This includes little pet peeves such as "useless words", and conversely, the RP side has to accept that not everyone is quite as keen on saying an action as they are, and that they should show moderation in this.

    2) This is, for all intents and purposes, and administrated total democracy. Everyone has a say, which is all taken into account, and, is then acted upon. This is to protect the interests of minorities. In this case, we have an established compromise, and both sides of the argument are not satisfied with this compromise and, this being the problem, they are both minorities. Thus, neither side can be upheld above the other, and thus, no fair decision can be reached if it favours either side, which the other side will disagree with, which continues in a cycle, getting nowhere.

    3) The current system is based on common sense. Both on the common sense of the mod in question, who has to draw the line reasonably, and on the common sense of the poster to realize where this line is. True, this is sometimes problematic when the poster is enthusiastic and the mod strict, but except in this case, which to my knowledge has only ever happened twice, and has never resulted in a ban, this system works. If we have a working system, which, considering that both sides of this given argument are minorities, means a large majority is content with this, I see no reason to change the current system.

    Extremism is bad, m'kay?

Too many rules in the EPR now. I can't take it anymore. I can't go back to chatting in there
You've taken too much fun away.

    No clop
    No spam
    No large RP
Save underline for requests and bold for mods

    It's not that complicated :/

The problem with RP in the stream is that when people would start RPing, what would start out as small and light would move to take over the stream chat, people would complain about people trying to talk non-RP conversation, they'd act like they owned the entire and stream and it wouldn't be fair at all for those who aren't RPing, basically around 4 or 5 members dominating a chat with 10+ others who aren't RPing.

As it got spammy we had to move it to the other RP chat, but it's own problems aroused and we had to remove it, we're working on the situation there, if the RP chat even comes at all.
