I taught myself using how-to sites and tutorial videos on the internet. There is a lot of good information out there. About.com is a good place to start, believe it or not! ^_^

I never successfully made ONE THING. I had to restart. Eight times. ON A SCARF. It was rather sad.... But sewing's easy! Especially machine sewing. You should just take a class, or... ask someone who knows how. Or like ResidualChaos said ^, you can always use online tutorial sites or instructional books. It's something you can catch on to pretty fast, usually. :>
