"Shiny," Taffy remarked as she sat at the table and started piling cream onto her hot chocolate with a spoon. Once she was done, she took a sip, and then looked at Arcana with whipped cream on her nose. "So where is this concert of yours?" She inquired.
Arcana looks at Taffy, and begins to laugh with the whipped cream on her face. "It's - It's at the Center of Gathering, the place where they have a big Nightmare Night celebration every year," she said trying not to laugh again. "I'll be on the stage, along with two other groups today." She takes a sip of her own hot chocolate. "I'm sorry for laughing."
"Laughing at what?" Taffy wrinkled her nose and looked cross-eyed at the cream on it. "Oh." She giggled and wiped most of it off with the back of her hoof. "You must be pretty good, if they're letting you play in a big place like that." She observed, quite impressed.
"I think I'm pretty good, I mean with 5 years of playing and training does help, but I'm just the opening act of the featured artists," She smiled, "so I'm not the best up there, but I'll play like I am."
"Well I can't wait to hear ya." Taffy said, drinking some more of her hot chocolate; it was really good. "And I'll bet some of those bigger acts are all lip syncing and pitch-correction spells anyway."
Arcana couldn't help herself and just started laughing her tail off. "I wonder if that's the reason she travels with a bunch of Unicorns," She said and then returned to laughing.
Arcana finished laughing and sips her hot chocolate. "I'm sorry," she says as she saw the hot chocolate come out of her nose.
"Well, It's not the worst thing I've had come out of my nose" She wiped her nose once more, trying to regain some dignity. "So, what kind of music are you going to play?"
"I'm a folk musician, mostly," Arcana said with another sip of her hot chocolate. "Though I started in classical music, what would be played for the Princesses at Canterlot, I believe," She finishes her hot chocolate and wipes her mouth clean.
"Yeah, we play a lot of folksy music where I'm from," Taffy said, nodding. "I don't really hold to this pop music; I heard a record of Sapphire Shores once, don't know what all the fuss is about honestly."
"Eh, neither do I. All that matters to me in this concert is that people like what I play," Arcana said, sounding kind of hopeful. "It's the first time I've really played for such a big crowd," she sighs. "How did you repair that speaker anyway?" Arcana asked. "That was faster than I've seen anyone fix it."
"Oh, I just seem to have a knack for it, you know? Fixin' things I mean." Taffy explained, looking into her mug. "Ever since I was a filly, I could look at something, figure out how it works, and fix it. Special talent dad called it, and I guess he must have been right." She said, glancing at her cutie mark.
"I'll say you have a knack for it, I think it worked better than when I got it," Arcana said while floating her empty cup over the the counter. She looked at Taffy's cutie mark, "That's a great special talent, one that can help anypony."
"Thanks," Taffy said, blushing slightly at the compliment and pushing her mane out of her eyes once more. "But music can help ponies too; it can make 'em feel all kinds of ways, and it can lead to dancin'. An' dancin's your body's way of showin' that you're soul's happy. Least, that's what dad used to say." She looked at Arcana bashfully "Dad used to say some kooky stuff."
"I thinks that was an art filled way to speak," Arcana takes out a piece of paper out of her case. "Hey, it looks like I planned a dancing song for today anyway," she looks up and pushes a strand of her mane away from her eyes. "Maybe I get to see you dance," She said.
"I don't think it's going to be fancy," Arcana said in thought, "Well, I'm going to makes first impressions, I'll be heading back to my hotel room to take bath before the show." She packs up her case. "It's a good idea to make a good impression where ever you go. You know?"
"Yeah." Taffy bit her lip, "Hey, um, I know this is a bit forward, and I don't mean to be intrusive, but could I share your bath?" She turned bright red. "Not- not while you're in it! I didn't mean like- after you're done I mean!" She looked away. "S' just, I ain't got no hotel room, and I don't know nopony here, an' I normally just sleep wherever I can, so I don't usually have a bath, and that normally don't matter, but like you said, first impressions matter, and I don't want you to be embarrassed to be seen with me at the concert, what with me bein' all oily and dirty n'all." She stopped talking for a second to catch her breath.
Arcana just smiles at Taffy brightly. "Yes, you certainly can. No need to get embarrassed." She pushes the door out of the way and gestures for her to follow. "If you'd like, I could also give you the spare bed in the hotel room. I'll try to be the perfect gentlecolt of course," she said happily.
