The crowd cheered and and stomped like they hadn't cheered all evening, and Taffy added her praise to the rest. One very excited stallion even went so far as to call for an encore.
The energy returned quickly, but he acted as if he's still tired. He started the next song to play, one of his newest favorites as he planned to debut it tonight. "I'm home again, I won the war. And now, I am behind your door..."
The audience quietened down for Arcana's next song, the more subdued tone prompting many ponies to sit down, Taffy included.
The music picks up in intensity as the chorus swells, "Nothing's what it seems to be. I'm a replica, I'm a replica ..." As the chorus finished. The music kept the intensity building. "The light is green. My slate is clean..."
The song picked up in intensity as the chorus started again, "Nothing's what it seems to be, I'm a replica, I'm replica ..."
Some of the ponies around her were dancing, but Taffy choose instead to sit back in quiet awe at Arcana's musical talent, an enchanted smile on her face.
The song solos and then goes into the chorus again. Arcana finishes the song with the beginning, "I'm home again. I won the war and now I am behind the door. I tried so hard to obey the law and see the meaning of it all. Remember me, before the war, I'm the man who lived."
As the final note died, Taffy added her stomps to the thunderous applause and whistles of appreciation directed at Arcana; clearly he was the hit of the evening.
Arcana was very appreciative of the applause he was receiving. He smiled and asked the audience a simple question. "Hey, we all know about Nightmare Night, right?"
"This next song is based off a rumor I've heard, see if you can spot it." A lone piano starts to play as the song begins. "Sitting in the corner all alone. Staring at the bottom of her soul. Watching the day come in from the window." Arcana sang with a somber tone. "It will all collapse tonight, she comes to life again..."
Curious as to what rumour Arcana might be referencing, although thinking she might have an idea, Taffy listens closely to the lyrics, and mulls them over in her mind as Arcana sings.
"In sickness and in health, understanding, full demanding. She has one name, no rhyme or any reason. It seems insane to know." Arcana sings as the song picks up in tempo. "Feeling no shame in it all. 'They'll see the beauty of what I'm doing.' she thinks of no wrong at all. Again she makes the moon rise into the sky."
Taffy nodded along to the melody, still thinking on the meaning of the lyrics, images of the Princess Luna being conjured in her mind.
"Feeling the mists of the morning, she cannot hide anymore. Someone's at the door, Understanding, too demanding. Can this be wrong? Her love is never ending. Makes her insane, again" Arcana sang out. Saddened by the fact that if the rumor was true. She wouldn't be this way any more, but continued to sing the song as he wrote it.
Taffy continued to puzzle over the lyrics; she'd never been that good at deciphering hidden meanings. Fancy wordcraft was not one of her talents.
"Luna should lock the open door.(Run Away x 3) Fullmoon is on the sky and she's not a mare anymore. She sees the change in her and can't her clan ... Nightmare Moon!" Arcana sings out to connect the dots for the audience. "Power on display. The sky is grey no calm today. She doesn't want to wait. 'We got to make the harmony tonight' In the mists of the morning, she cannot fight anymore. Thousand moons or more, she's been howling. Knock on the door, and the scream that it not hearing. Marks on the floor, again." He sings in the chorus again.
Taffy smiled with sudden realisation, and was reminded of all the Nighmare Night parties she had helped her father organise in their saloon. They were fond memories, but they made her a little homesick.
"We see what became of our darling mare." Arcana finished singing saddened by the story it tells, but feeling the rush given from performing it.
