"That- I- that's real nice of you!" Taffy beamed, giving Arcana a quick hug before going through the door. Something about a pony who appeared to be a mare promising to be a 'perfect gentlecolt' amused her greatly, and she chuckled.
Arcana puts her stuff into her cart and hooks herself into it. She starts pulling the cart. "What's so funny?" She asked with a smirk.
"I'm sorry," Taffy said, still chuckling, "it's not even that funny; it's just you, looking like you do, promising to be a 'perfect gentlecolt'. Anypony listening must've thought you'd gone peculiar." "I probably shouldn't laugh," She said, trying to stem her giggling, "I'm sure it's been difficult at times."
"Hehe" A small chuckle escaped Arcana's mouth. "I understand." She continues walking to her destination. "And yeah, it was difficult sometime. My first time lasted an entire month and that was enlightening." She looked up as if reminiscing. "That was before I learned how to replicate the spell." Arcana turned to look at Taffy and stopped. "Thanks for the consideration."
"That's ok, it seems like a subject worth considering," Taffy responded, smiling. She was just glad she hadn't offended her new friend. After a moment, another thought came to her. "Replicate the spell?" she said, frowning. "Does that mean you can control when you change?"
"Unfortunately no, it means that I'm able to change back mostly when I need to. It's a magically exhausting spell and the curse uses my own magic to do it. This curse loves making itself known," Arcana explained, trying to find the right words. "It's like, a pony pushes something really heavy by themselves and they can't do it for a while again. Most of the time, I can only do cantrips until I get my energy back," She said.
Taffy whistled. "That sure does sound like one doozy of a curse. Does anybody else know about it? Family or friends?"
Arcana laughed, "Doozy is a good word for it. My family knows about it and my sisters tease me about it a lot. But so far, you're one of two friends that know about it."
"But you've not found anyone who can help ya will it huh? That's too bad. I can see why you'd want to see the Princess now." After they'd walked on a bit further, Taffy looked back over at Arcana. "So, you'd say we was friends?"
Arcana meets her eyes and smiles, "Yes, I believe I would say that we are friends." Guiding both of them to the hotel, she took a right turn. Seeing the hotel in the distance, Arcana points a hoof to it. She says, "Friends getting to know each other, certainly, but still friends."
Taffy smiled; it was always nice to have a friend in a new town. She'd made a few friends since leaving home, but that had been in much smaller communities, places more like her home town. She'd been a little worried about coming to a proper city. She looked at the hotel. "It, uh, sure is... big?" she said tentatively, she still wasn't really used to all these tall buildings.
"Well, be happy that I'm only on the 6th floor of the hotel," Arcana said while parking and locking up her cart in the hotel space. She opened the door for Taffy. "I don't think I've asked this, but where are you from?" She asked.
"6th floor?" Taffy said, slightly worried, "Shiny." "I'm from Dodge Junction; it's a little town out in the desert, dad runs the saloon there." She said, walking across the lobby. "How about you?" she asked, trying to keep her mind off the unnatural height of the building.
"I've always been a city pony. I'm from South Los Pegasus," Arcana said while walking inside the hotel. She walks to the elevator and motions Taffy to come inside. "I don't think I've been to Dodge Junction, before," She commented. "What is it like?
"Dusty, small, hot." Taffy said, apprehensively getting into the elevator. "Not much reason for anypony to be there unless they're hiddin', on their way to somewhere else, or they wanna buy some cherries; but, It's home, ya know?"
Arcana hits the number 6 button and the door closes. "I know the feeling a bit. It's really downtown that everyone goes for when it comes to Los Pegasus," she said looking up. The elevator starts to move up towards the sixth floor. Arcana smiles at Taffy.
Light background music played as the elevator started to move, and Taffy swayed slightly to the rhythm; it helped calm her nerves a little. "So, uh, how'd you get started with music?" She asked Arcana. "Was it before your... accident, or?"
"Family taught me how to sing. I was born in a family of musicians." Arcana explained. "When they found out, the first thing that happened is my mother testing my vocal range." She looked down at the floor, "then my sisters teasing me about my pretty voice."
"Yeah, I hear siblings can be kinda mean," Taffy said, putting a hoof on Arcana's shoulder. "But I like your pretty voice, it suits the rest of you. Besides, it'd be much worse if your voice didn't change with your appearance, right?"
The elevator stops and Arcana looks deep in thought. "I never thought of that. Maybe I should do more music work as a mare." She walks them to her room. "What do you think?"
