It's kind of fascinating how each artist tends to draw these -Ette characters to fit what they think the most attractive version of this character would be.
True. Though Rule 34 of Bowsette will be still cranking out, even if she becomes cannon. I know I am going to eat my words in some strange turn of events, but I doubt that Nintendo will have any conceivable reason to make Bowsette cannon. Besides. Outside fannon, Bowsette has little reason to exist in cannon lore. The crown itself excluded, of course. I mean sure. There was a technically 'trans' Bowser, in Bowletta. Though that was due to the forceful transformation from Cackletta taking over Bowser.
Pretty sure all of the R34 stuff is the main reason Bowsette will never be canon. Nintendo tries to keep their properties pretty family friendly so incorporating a fanmade sex symbol into their games just doesn't seem likely. On the other hand, Nintendo isn't above creating sexy 1st party characters so I guess anything is "possible."
That's because they are existing in cannon first. Bowsette is a case where R34 was made from a fannon variation of Bowser. Because of this, Nintendo will most likely not touch the idea. Though I do agree with Rock that Marina was oddly sexualized. Pretty much Nintendo pulling a Krystal power move, knowing that people will R34 her.
