Which is why there would be systems in place to prevent popular blowouts. It's simple to encourage voting for people who show signs of being both a benefit and help to the community, while also being an outstanding member. Being pessimistic about things doesn't really help anything. Try not to go and provoke him. Not really necessary. c: What's the point of an award if everyone gets them? Some people do more things than others, and as a result they get recognition for it. If someone wants to get one, motivate yourself to be a better member and show it. The best people lead by example. Ponies please. Everyone knows that Dragon would win.
Do we really need to go there? Let's just stay on topic without getting hostile towards other people.
Can you please stop playing mini-mod everywhere? This idea has come up before and was turned down. It will probably happen again. /pessimism I really have nothing more to comment on the subject, unless someone tries pushing my buttons. The only thing I can say is that I misunderstood what you guys meant by "awards." That idea in general is dumb to me. Having shiny usertitles under your avatar is what I was thinking of, not little icons bundled together in a group under your name. Too lazy to show example.
Aww that makes me super sad. I'm just trying to prevent hostility yo. I aint got any beef with ya. But you shouldn't resort to insults. If you would have said that to someone more sensitive you could have ruined their entire day! C: - - Auto Merge - - I actually didn't mean to. I'm just playing, I didn't realise some people are so overly sensitive. It's like my paranoia in highschool all over again!
Well, if we're going there, let me say that your first post to me was not very nice. It was very provocative. You don't tease and pet an already angry dog.
I hardly think resorting to insults was mature of you, regardless if that post was even meant to provoke you (which it wasn't). Seriously. Sensitivity is fine, but an unecessary short temper and jumping to conclusions is just sad.
Spoiler: This Thread This has grown vastly off topic. Seriously, if this crap keeps up, I'll get mods in here in a heartbeat. Can we please drop the whole deal about the insults and whatnot and get back to the actual point of the thread? I understand the bit about the titles, and maybe we can put that up to a vote later on. What else can we do via the awards system in particular, mike406?
Ugh, you insulted me first, and as far as immaturity well, read your own posts please. You are not a nice person, and I hate myself now for thinking differently before. I can tell this is going no where good, so I'll just report all these posts and let the mods deal with it.
Now, I hope that this little spat has burnt out as both of your behaviours are reprehensible here for different reasons. Sinder, if someone is telling you that they are not in the mood to take what you're saying as light-hearted, carrying on will not change that. Please take that onboard in future as the result can come of as spiteful, even unintentionally. Janemba, I know it's hard to walk away from a fight on the internet but it's the best recourse when you know your buttons are being pushed. The earlier you do it, the less rope you give to hang yourself with. There, unpleasant warning out of the way. If you have an issue, you come to me via PM. ~|~ Well...Best Fan-Fic/Video/Picture/Blog/yadda/yadda seems like something you can get awards out of and, as a massive fan of writing and art, in general, I'd love to do a few rewards like that. It could also be an easier choice to make than 'Pony of the Year' at least because it's easier to pick out a piece of work and list of reasons why its good. You just need to trawl through what's on the site for the highlights. Plus, we've got a pretty interesting and diverse amount of stuff going on. I say celebrate it! I saw an awesome looking Derpy hat here. If not an award then at least all my money!
Could the 'Roleplayer Academy' thread serve some use towards the awards? Like some sort of 'Newcomer to Roleplaying' award? Maybe reward someone for their creative style and how they deliver each story with their own style of writing in something they haven't or rarely done before.
Again, that could work. As long as the general group of Roleplayer's are happy with their work being judged. Roleplay can be seen as a rather disposable form of writing but I've seen a lot of effort put into creating these things alone. I know me and quite a few do and the amount of head-cannons in there is high. I'd be up for it, as it would be just like rating a fan fic, most likely. I'm not sure I'd want to be the one to trawl though all the Roleplays though. Nothing against the quality of writing, more the quantity.
This has pretty much COMPLETELY gotten away from me at this point, hasn't it? All that I wanted was a way to recognize the members and staff that work so hard to make Everypony great. Nothing official, just a series of polls and possibly a few discussion threads. You know, something simple, friendly, and fun. What I'm seeing is a lot of bickering and arguments. Please, can we all just calm down and stop taking things so seriously? Here... have a kitten.
OK, Thanks Ridley. Something related to the topic would be far more useful as well. Please add something to comment on relating to the topic to your post. Back on track, I commend Dark Samus' sentiment. A big chance for some recognition and a little bragging rights sounds good, especially keeping it to a regular basis. However, you can manage a similar thing with the Community Post as well as anyone that writes a review blog. Something to consider, I suppose.
Ugh... this is what I'm talking about. People take things WAY too seriously around here. Remember folks, this is a forum for fans of magical talking ponies. For the love of whatever gods you believe in, LIGHTEN UP!!! My post was on topic. I was trying to reiterate what was said in the OP, and maybe try to calm folks down a little. The kitten is just there to make you smile. Did it work?
Well the system in itself is simplistic, but covers most bases. There is a public page where available awards are listed as you can see here. It has definitely been collecting dust. - http://www.everypony.com/forums/awards.php The awards themselves can be set to public voting (recommendation form) - meaning that members can send a form recommendation with a username + reason that X person should receive the award. Some of you will remember Pony of the Year last year I used that mechanic to compile votes. Awards can also be set to request-able - meaning the user can request an award for him or herself should they feel they did an act worthy of it. Staff can review the act if it falls into the criteria. <- Some will say this is a bad idea. I see it differently as staff are smart/mature enough to weed out poor requests and will be able to focus on their job instead of headhunting for good deeds themselves. Or of course, your basic non-votable/request-able award that can only be given by the staff explicitly. And as stated before, but I'll throw it in again. Awards can be set to be viewable on profile and posts. The large icon goes on profiles, the small icon goes on posts for quick identification. There are probably better plugins/systems out there that could do it better, but from the premise given by this thread, the current implementation here would work well for this. Also just a small thing that bugs me here. Some of y'all need to calm down with the "Oh noes popularity contest". It only becomes that way should the staff not properly create a fair system. These things exist on tons of forums and I don't know about you, but this board needs more fun things to do and badges to strive for is a tried and true system, again if set up correctly. I actually think a Member of the Month would be a better alternative to Pony of the Year. Just make it so you can't get it again after a few months or whatever. Stuff like Being consistently helpful, Keeping good spirits, etc would be things I would look for a member of the month. <- Though of course these traits by themselves could get their own unique awards. Depend how staff wants to go with it. In the end though, it's certainly more than worth a try.
I actually like this idea. If a member receives a reward for, let's say, best RP of 2013, members could vote on why it is good and so forth. It should not be a popularity contest, just a reward of just simply good work and so forth. And also, bragging rights
