"Red?" she asked, sounding intrigued as she leaned back on the couch, still petting the animal gently. "Red. Huh. Why are we so different?"
She considered him curiously before looking back down at the creature, her face impossible to read. "I know you only did this to do your experiments," she said after a moment. "But thank you for stopping them from putting me back under."
She laughed slightly, her brows furrowing in confusion. "Well, yes," she agreed. "But I am not your person. I am not your concern."
"No," she said immediately. "No, I just... thank you, I suppose." She hesitated, rubbing the tiny tattoos just under her jaw. "I'm trying to thank you, I suppose."
"You're welcome, I suppose," he said teasingly, getting up and going to pour himself a drink. "I'm going to test this. You're free to do whatever."
She looked down at the creature in her hands. "Oh. Alright." Her gaze flickered up to the drink and she frowned, tilting her head. "Is that for the test?"
