She huffed, crossing her arms. "See, this is why they isolate us, so we don't have to worry about being murdered."
He hesitated. "I used to work for this really esteemed corporation. I helped put together their products. Eventually I found where the ingredients came from. It was just a bunch of creatures from different planets. They looked so afraid.. So I released them all. Caused a bit of havoc. A lot more than I wanted. It just kind of escalated from there.."
She looked over at him in surprise. That flush returned to her cheeks as she considered him, her eyes softening. "Is that true?"
He laughed slightly, still facing his work. "Yeah. That was when I discovered my affinity for them," he said, gesturing to the wall of habitats.
She considered him before laughing slightly, shaking her head as she went over to the wall. "You... you're a surprising person, Basel."
She was observing the specimens thoughtfully, but she turned to look at him, giving him a small smile. "Yes. Surprising."
The blood swirled in the vial, glowing with a cool light. It wasn't responding to the tests as he expected. In fact, the blood seemed to actively reject the tests he was doing; as he dropped compounds into the test tubes, the blood separated, swirling around the foreign material like oil in water.
Her blood sizzled as it dropped onto the slide. Upon looking, he would see not the symbolic cells he had come to recognize, but sprials, looking almost like the ribbons placed on presents.
